can spend years silently eating away at your biggest investment before you ever see a sign of damage. By the time you notice them, the damage may already be extensive - and homeowners insurance typically doesn’t cover it. Protect your home before termites become your problem.

Here is the truth about Stink Bugs - there isn’t much you can do once they are inside the house, other than trap and dispose of them.

Treating around doors and windows regularly can reduce the odds of them inside - but cannot guarantee 100% control.

This is an invasive species that arrived to KC in 2013 - they have a waxy coating that makes them relatively pesticide resistant, and can slip through a 1/8th inch crack!

Here is our owner (an Associate Certified Entomologist) doing an expert interview on Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs with KMBC9 last fall, alongside Mizzou’s Horticulture specialist:

https://www.kmbc.com/article/why-so-many-stink-bugs-in-kansas-city-this-fall-and-how-to-get-rid-of-them/69274799

Our 3 top tips:

1 - Set a bowl of soapy water under a bright light to capture the ones that make it inside - it’s old school but effective.

2 - If you have fruit trees - pick up and dispose of fruit on the ground.

3 - Seal cracks where they enter

The good news - they are a seasonal pest looking for a spot to overwinter, and aren’t dangerous (just annoying).

They typically settle somewhere hidden - then when Spring comes around they depart on their own. Less honest companies might let you think it’s because it’s something they did - but it’s usually just normal seasonal movement.

Sorry for the jump scare! Sharing because we see SO MANY posts calling every brown spider a brown recluse. 😂

They’re common in KC, but not every brown spider is one.

A few things to look for:

• 6 eyes, arranged in 3 pairs. 👀 👀 👀
• Darker “violin” 🎻 marking on the back
• Legs are uniform in color (no stripes)
• They prefer dark, undisturbed areas

And about the bite…
Most brown recluse bites are mild and heal on their own. The nasty-looking skin lesions you’ve seen? They absolutely can happen, but are less common than the internet makes it seem.

If you have a Brown Recluse problem, you know who to call!
