❄️ Winter is here – Is YOUR septic system ready for the cold? ❄️
At Strouse Brothers Septic, we've seen too many frozen pipes and backed-up systems this time of year. Don't let Jack Frost cause costly headaches! Follow these simple tips to keep your septic system flowing smoothly all winter long:
Use your system regularly – Warm water from daily showers, laundry (spread out loads), and dishwashing helps prevent freezing. The more consistent flow, the better!
Insulate exposed areas – Add 8-12 inches of mulch, straw, or extra soil over the tank, pipes, and drain field for natural insulation. (Avoid this if adding it now would trap a frozen system – call a pro first!)
Fix leaks ASAP – Dripping faucets or toilets can lead to ice buildup in lines. Repair them to avoid bigger problems.
Avoid compacting snow/soil – Don't drive or park over the septic area – it reduces natural insulation from snow cover.
Never add harmful stuff – Skip antifreeze, salt, or random additives. They can damage the system!
