It was an honor to attend the University of North Florida Blue & Gray Bash on Friday evening! Our design team has had the best time reimagining the UNF Arena and Field House spaces over the past year, and it was wonderful to see the community out for a fun evening supporting UNF athletics!

New Team Member Alert! We are thrilled to welcome Sean Johnson, AIA to the KMF team!

Sean has spent much of his professional career practicing in Northeast Florida, particularly in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, where he has owned and operated his practice for the past ten years. Living and working in St. Augustine has reinforced his belief that one of the most important aspects of sustainability is preserving and thoughtfully adapting the historic building stock we already have.

He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Florida, where he developed a deep appreciation for Florida Modernism, particularly the work of Paul Rudolph and the Sarasota School of Architecture. His practice is grounded in a humanist design approach—one informed by place and the vernacular, and guided by a balance of innovation, restraint, and constructability. Collaboration among the client, design team, construction team and local stakeholders is central to this process.

Sean’s career has now come full circle. His first summer internship was in Orlando, and he looks forward to working with new clients throughout Central Florida while continuing to serve the Northeast Florida clients with whom he has built relationships spanning more than 25 years.

Outside of architecture, Sean’s interests include photography, furniture design, and music.

Here is a peek at last Saturday's Orange County Fire Rescue 343 Hero Challenge. We are always honored to sponsor this meaningful event.

Ninety teams competed in Orange County Fire Rescue’s 343 Hero Challenge, raising more than $40,000 for two charities.

The 343 Hero Challenge hosted by Orange County Fire Rescue was a day for remembrance. Twenty-five years after the tragedy, this annual event honors the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who were lost on September 11, 2001, but not forgotten. KMF Architects is proud to sponsor this tribute to the first responders at Ground Zero. Every year we are in awe of the the athleticism showcased at this fitness competition. Thank you to all who coordinated and participated!

New Team Member Alert! Welcome Sammy Meneses!

Sammy earned his master’s degree from the University of Florida Graduate School of Architecture. His interest in building construction came from his passion of physical model making and 3D digital design which led to his curiosity for uncovering the process of building architecture. Sammy’s ability to create meaningful relationships between client, contractor, and architect comes from years of networking as a local and international touring musician acting as the band’s chief financial officer and bass player. Sammy will be performing construction administration for KMF.

The KMF Summer Book Club read was "A Land Remembered" by Patrick D. Smith. We marveled at how life in Florida has changed since the 1830s, cried over Brahma bull deaths and snacked on some sweet oranges as a tribute to the MacIvy orange groves. This classic Florida historical fiction novel was a reread for some and a new read for others, but consensus was we loved this book!

Stay tuned for our spooky October read!
