Gopher tortoises require undeveloped land to build their burrows, lay their eggs and raise their young. These gentle giants are now listed as endangered. Please remind the local, county and state committees who approve new development that habitat is vital for their survival.

Jan was a lovely lady who shared her knowledge of floral design with many of our members. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

Honoring the Life of Jan Sillik.

The Garden Club of Jacksonville joins Jan Sillik's family, friends, and the gardening community in celebrating a life devoted to service, education, and the love of flowers.

A lifelong Jacksonville resident, Jan was a passionate gardener, accomplished floral designer, and dedicated leader whose influence reached far beyond our local community. As a Past President of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and a Master Flower Show Judge, she inspired generations of gardeners through her knowledge, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the mission of garden clubs. Throughout her decades of service, Jan championed horticulture, floral design, conservation, and youth education, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

To the Garden Club of Jacksonville, Jan was much more than a respected leader—she was a mentor, teacher, and cherished friend. Whether leading a floral design workshop, volunteering at an event, or offering words of encouragement to a new member, she generously shared her time, talent, and kindness with everyone she met. Her enthusiasm, warmth, and dedication helped shape our organization and will continue to inspire us for years to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jan's family and loved ones during this difficult time. Her legacy will live on through the beautiful gardens she nurtured, the people she mentored, and the countless lives she touched.

A funeral service honoring Jan's life will be held on Sunday, August 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Jacksonville Anglican, 9917 103rd Street, Jacksonville, Florida. Following the service, family, friends, Garden Club members, and all whose lives were touched by Jan are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life Reception at 5:00 p.m. at the Garden Club of Jacksonville.

Jan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
