The Old Jail Annex in Saint Augustine has served the community in many roles since its construction in 1953. First as the county’s primary jail facility where it briefly became a focal point in the American Civil Rights movement when Martin Luther King Jr. was jailed following his arrest during a protest. And again shortly after was the arrest of the Six Rabbis that led to the “Why We Went” letter.

Since that time, the building has served multiple purposes for the sheriff and the county, including being used as a haunted house!

Over the past few months, Thomas May Construction has begun the challenging task of bringing the building back to life so it can continue to serve the community as a center for some of Saint John’s County Sheriff’s Department operations. All while retaining some of the buildings’ original Art Moderne-Style architectural elements and preserving pieces of the buildings historic significance!

School may be back in session, but that can’t stop the progress on the mechanical upgrades going on at Fernandina Beach High School!

We are a few months into a highly complex upgrade of to the chillers at Fernandina Beach High School. The project includes the installation of 2 new 400 ton rotary screw water chillers, boilers and associated mechanical systems to support the new equipment.

The project will result in a highly reliable and efficient system to keep students, faculty and staff cool in the late summer and early spring and warm in our brief but chilly winter months!

In 1980, Hagan Ace opened on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park. The store quickly became an integral part of the community. Just over a year ago, a devastating fire shut the store down. Sadly, the old building had to be torn down.

Today, Thomas May Construction Company and our trusted team of contractors is hard at work to bring back the landmark location!
