This ain’t your granddaddy’s railroad…

This is specialty rail inside a paper mill where everything’s tight, slick, and smells like a mix between hard work and “you’ll get used to it which you never do”.
Mill said it would take us 3 days…how about 9 hours?

No nice clean ballast out here. Just a crew balancing on logs, wrestling steel, and making it look easier than it’s got any business being.

Ain’t no shortcuts in a place like this. You either know what you’re doing or you learn real quick with everybody watching.

Some folks talk railroad.
We’ll climb up in the middle of a paper mill and prove it.

One call solves it all…even in places most folks wouldn’t last til lunch.

Ain’t nothing like a little fresh air, sunshine… and a full-blown wrestling match with some switch points and stock rail.

Out here in God’s country, the boys are swapping iron like it’s biscuits at Sunday supper. No complaints, no shortcuts, just a whole lotta sweat, a few choice words, and getting it done right the first time.
Folks see railroad tracks and think they just sit there lookin’ pretty… they don’t see the crews out here persuadin’ steel to behave.

All my life I been told there’s a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, figured that was just one of them stories folks tell to keep you lookin’ up instead of down.

Then this past Saturday, we roll past Thompson Carriers and my wife snaps this picture, and I’ll be danged if that rainbow didn’t land smack on a yellow Thompson Carriers Inc truck like it had a delivery to make.

Turns out the gold wasn’t hidden after all, it’s just been hauling loads and showing up when their client needed it.

In all seriousness, Thompson Carriers Inc has been one heck of a partner to us over the years. When it comes to backing our brand and getting the job done, they don’t chase rainbows,
they are the gold.

Couple years ago you could’ve piled this whole crew into a minivan, stopped at the gas station for two biscuits and a Mountain Dew, and still had room left over for doubt about what we were gonna do the next day, mainly ‘cause we didn’t have nothin lined up.

Fast forward to now and we are sittin here lookin at next year’s schedule like it’s a game of Tetris tryin to figure out where in the world we’re gonna fit it all.

Ain’t gonna lie, gets me a little fired up, and yeah, maybe a little emotional, seein what this thing’s turned into. From “hope we got work tomorrow” to “how we gonna handle all this work next year?”

And just when you think we’re full…

We go and add another service.

That’s right.

Monday’s a good day to get your mind right and your boots moving in the same direction.

We had the chance to move a caboose, and I’ll tell you what, that wasn’t just another job to us. That one meant something. History, pride, and a little bit of grit all rolled into one. We were dang glad to be a part of it.

Now I know some folks roll into Monday like it ran them over instead of the other way around. But if you’re dragging a little today, take a second and remember why you do what you do.

And if you can’t find that why?

Well, it’s probably time to go track it down like a hound dog on a hot trail.

Getting a road and crane pad punched in for this bridge upgrade job.
Now this right here ain’t the finished product… this is just the “hold my sweet tea and watch this” phase.

Mud flying, iron moving, and a crew that don’t know the meaning of “wait on it.”
Just good ol boys turning a rough patch of ground into something a crane can tiptoe across like it’s Sunday morning.

Work in progress? You bet.
But if you know our guys, you already know how this story ends!
HG Erosion Control is coming in to brighten it up for St. Patrick’s Day and you won’t have to search for the green!

Most folks riding by this scene just see a railcar to truck grain transfer going on.

I see a little more than that.

I see Jason Law and the LSS crew getting after it like it’s just another Tuesday.

I see spare tires in the back of the truck… because when you’re dragging around a grain vac that weighs about as much as a stubborn mule, it’s gonna eat tires no matter how many plys the salesman swore it had.

And I see a crew that ain’t sitting around waiting on roadside service when something goes sideways.

Because to them, the client comes first… and the railroad comes even first-er.

That’s the kind of mindset that keeps grain moving, trucks rolling, and railroads happy.

When the railroad calls HG Railroad Services, we like to say “one call solves it all.”

Well… James Howard has taken that about as literal as a man possibly can.

The railroad needed several concrete repairs knocked out at a car shop, and James didn’t waste a lick of time. He rolled in, got set up, and went to work like he’d been waiting all week for somebody to give him an excuse to sling some concrete.

Next thing you know the repairs are done, the shop’s back in business, and James is standing there looking around like a man who just finished supper… wondering if there’s seconds.

Around here when the railroad calls, folks like James don’t ask many questions.

They just get to fixing it.

Somewhere along the way we started saying “One call solves it all.”

Tyler Hahn and Zack Anglin both know where the slogan came from and I’m sure they still cringe when they hear me quote it. Yes it was me.

Turns out… we weren’t kidding.

The HG Railroad Services Vac Services crew is back at it again today, answering the call and handling another one of those “hey we need this fixed right now” railroad situations.

Mud, water, ballast, or whatever mystery the track department dug up this week, the vac truck shows up, the hose comes off the truck, and the problem disappears like it owed the crew money.

The railroad keeps rolling, the job gets done, and the boys load back up waiting on the next call.

One call solves it all.
And around here… we mean it!
