Halloween eve to-do list: the only thing scary about your lawn should be skipping these three. 🍂
1. Feed the roots. Winterizer fertilizer goes down after top growth stops but while the grass is still green. The roots stash it away like a savings account for spring.
2. Deal with the leaves. Light coverage? Mulch-mow it. Heavy coverage? Rake, blow and remove, in stages. A thick, wet leaf mat smothers grass and invites snow mold.
3. Make the last mow count. Drop the height to about 2.5 inches on the final pass. And yes, mowing into November is totally normal. Grass keeps growing roots until the ground freezes.
Bonus round: sprinkler winterization. Book it before the first hard freeze. Water left in the lines turns to ice, and ice wins.
