Yellow leaves with green veins? Take a closer look at your pin oak, maple or birch. 🍂

When a leaf turns yellow but its veins stay green, it’s usually chlorosis. The tree isn’t getting enough iron from the soil, so it can’t make the green it needs to feed itself. It won’t fix itself, and left alone, the tree gets a little weaker every year.

The good news: it’s treatable. Mature trees are a big investment, and they’re worth protecting.

When something breaks, we build it back up together. 🌳

This summer, a beloved tree at Westbrook Elementary lost its bark—and with it, its ability to survive. What could have been a moment of blame became a moment of possibility.

Instead of pointing fingers or dwelling on what went wrong, SunCo asked: “How can we help make this right?" We removed the tree and ground the stump free of charge because Westbrook's students and staff deserve a safe, thriving playground. But here's where it gets really good:

The tree is teaching now more than ever.

🌳 Westbrook's art teacher is turning the wood slices into a beautiful student project—transforming loss into creativity.

🌳 Westbrook's science teacher is using the rings and wood to help students understand how trees grow, how they're vulnerable without bark, and how to protect them.

🌳 Our community showed our kids that when something breaks, we don't tear each other down—we lift each other up.

These students are learning a lesson no textbook can teach: resilience, responsibility, and the power of working together. They're good kids. They're our kids. And they're going to do big things. (Multiple SunCo team members children are educated in the Westside school district. We’re proud!)

A heartfelt thank you to Principal Stevens and the entire Westbrook Elementary family. You turned a difficult moment into a teachable moment. That's what strong leaders do.
