Every contractor has at least one thing they won’t budge on. For Kaleb, it’s quality over quantity. He’ll admit it costs him sometimes.

He hears it from all sides: upsell this, add that, push the ticket up. He’s not knocking anybody who runs that way. He says plainly that some folks have to. But that’s not how he wants to operate.

“I want to go in and I wanna build the very best quality roof that I can build while I’m there.”

Being a smaller outfit is part of what makes it work for him. He can dial in on each job and give his clients a product he stands behind. For Kaleb, it comes down to what he wants his name tied to, and not having to go back.

You will be surprised how far a little bit of hospitality will go with a client. Might earn you a referral or possibly continued business with that client. Give it a try. might not cost you time or money.

Kaleb didn’t get here by accident. He tried the big-growth route first.

“I got kind of caught up in that rah-rah. Let’s build it. Let’s sell out. Let me get this golden parachute and ride off into the sunset. And I had so much stress, man.”

These days the bills are paid, the company’s supported, and he’s not missing dinners, dates, or time with his people.

He knows not everybody sees it that way, but he’s clear on what it means for him.… “right now, this is success”

Sunday Gems - Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara

Service is black and white. Hospitality is color.
Guidara separates service (doing the job correctly) from hospitality (how the experience makes someone feel).

A perfectly framed addition is service. Texting the homeowner a photo of the finished roughin because you know they’re anxious about the timeline is hospitality.

Most contractors compete only on service; price, quality, schedule. Customers remember the color.

That’s what gets you referrals and five-star reviews, because nobody writes “The joints were square” in a Google review. They write “they treated my house like it was their own.”
