It's a big week in Nebraska.

The ground is finally dry, the paving crews are rolling, and somehow Nebraska Football is undefeated heading into a showdown with defending National Champion Indiana this weekend.

So yes...some of us at Vrana are drinking the Kool-Aid. You have to have hope, right?

Earlier this season, our president, Grant Perry, made a friendly wager with Anthony L Hulett. Anthony is a Michigan fan, so he's had a tough enough year already. We won't discuss records. Or clocks. Or reviews of clocks.

After losing the bet, Anthony had to wear an alternative construction helmet during today's F Street concrete pour. To his credit, he paid up without complaint and wore it proudly all day.

Before anyone asks...yes, Anthony's muscles are real.

Then Eric Kuhl decided the helmet looked too good not to try on and proceeded to knock out up-downs in front of the concrete trucks like he was getting ready for fall camp.

The concrete got poured, the bet got paid, and nobody got hurt.

After what felt like endless rain and flooding, we've finally got sunshine and dry conditions. That can only mean one thing... it's paving season again.

The mainline is being prepped by Eric Kuhl and Bill Sharlyne O'Dell for an 800 cubic yard (80 truck) day this Monday. The crew is ready to hit the ground running.

And for anyone wondering if winter is getting close, don't worry. Bill, better known to many of us as "Wild Bill," is still wearing cutoff shirts. Although we're starting to think a hard hat may be in his future. 😂

Looking for a few experienced civil construction operators and laborers who aren't afraid of hard work, getting dirty, and occasionally being volunteered for tasks that start with, "This should only take a minute."

You'll be working with this great guy, Eric Kuhl, on the left, helping us finish some pretty paving projects in the Gretna area. Eric claims he's easy to work for, and he is known to provide endless donuts at work.

We can promise work until the snow flies, which based on Nebraska weather could be next week or Christmas Day. We're rooting for Christmas Day.

Today wasn't just another 1,000-yard pour (100 truckloads). It was our way of telling Mother Nature we're not backing down after the weather she's thrown at us lately.

We showed up, crushed some Chick-fil-A, and even got a surprise visit from our former paving superintendent, Darrell Lasher. Rumor has it he accidentally worked a few hours for free. 😊

Jokes aside, sunshine, smiles, and positive attitudes go a long way. Proud of this crew for staying after it and knocking out a big day when we finally got our chance.

2026 Vrana Civil Family Fun Day is officially in the books.

On Sunday, roughly 150 Vrana Civil team members and family members took over Fun-Plex to celebrate a strong first half of the construction season.

There was BBQ, water slides, sunshine, and enough kids running around to remind us why we build infrastructure instead of trying to manage a theme park.

The Lazy River was apparently the place to be. After a long construction season, it turns out sitting in a tube and doing absolutely nothing is a highly valued skill.

We are also happy to report that everyone who rode the new roller coaster has been accounted for. A few may still be emotionally processing the experience, but overall we're considering it a success.

In all seriousness, days like this are a good reminder that behind every project, bid, change order, and concrete pour are great people and great families. We're lucky to have both.

Thanks to everyone who came out. We're already planning next year's event, and based on the feedback we've received, we may just rent out the Lazy River and call it a company wellness program. 🌊🍔🎢

Good job to our paving and project crews on the 36th Street project. This week marked a major milestone on this $8 million NDOT project as they successfully completed one of the most complicated pours of the job—and absolutely crushed it.

Large pours like this don't happen without strong planning, teamwork, and ex*****on. The crew delivered every step of the way.

As our theme this month reminds us, "Set the Tone." This team did exactly that and has set the standard for the many large pours still ahead this month. Great work by everyone involved. 💪🚧

We hope everyone had a great Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

We were proud to help pull the Ralston High School football team in the parade. Marc Chamberlain looks pretty calm here, but there may have been a few moments when he was wondering if the truck had enough horsepower for all those future linebackers.

Next year, we might just bring the lowboy. 🚛🏈😂

Today we celebrate the freedom, opportunity, and hard work that make this country great. We're proud to play a small part in building the roads, bridges, and infrastructure that keep our communities moving forward.

The calm before the storm... or in our case, the calm before the paving crews start asking if we're done yet. 😂

June was a huge month for our underground crews. Deep sanitary sewer, massive storm sewer, basin construction—you name it, they put it in the ground. These guys flat out got after it while keeping safety and quality at the forefront. Glen Schroeder and Marc Chamberlain continue to deliver time and time again!

Now that the underground work has paved the way (pun intended), it's Anthony L Hulett and the paving crews' turn to shine in July. No pressure, Anthony... everybody is counting on you now. 👀

And yes, before anyone asks, that's Bill Sharlyne O'Dell in the first picture. Bill made it known that if he was going to be on Facebook, he'd prefer a "pretty picture." We did our best, Bill.

Great month by everyone involved. Let's keep the momentum rolling and start turning all that underground work into some fresh concrete. 🚧💪

One of the best days of the year is coming up: Father’s Day 😁.

At Vrana Civil, family isn’t just something we talk about… it’s a core part of who we are. It’s always been that way, and it always will be. Family comes first.

We’re lucky to have a lot of father/son duos out there helping keep our jobsites running every day. It’s pretty special to see that carry on from one generation to the next.

Here’s to all the dads - hope you get a relaxing Sunday… (although if you’re anything like the ones pictured here, we all know “relaxing” isn’t really in the cards).

Wilson, Grant Perry's son picture below, did say he’s washing Dad’s truck this weekend. We’ll see if he follows through.
