Texture can make a big difference in how a patio feels.

This Oak Harbor, WA space uses an irregular stone-style pattern framed with a contrasting dark border. The combination gives the patio a more natural look while still keeping the edges clean and defined.

Mixing textures and border details is a simple way to add character to hardscape without making the design feel busy.

Artificial turf can completely change how a shaded backyard feels and functions.

This Renton, WA space gets plenty of tree cover, where maintaining consistent natural grass can be challenging. The turf creates a clean, even surface while fitting neatly between the existing deck, hardscape, and retaining wall.

It’s a good example of making an existing outdoor space more usable without overcomplicating the design.

A well-designed paver surface can make a hardworking part of the property feel intentional and polished.

This Mukilteo, WA project uses a mix of paver sizes in cool gray tones to add subtle visual interest across a large area. The restrained color palette complements the home while the repeating pattern keeps the space from feeling flat or overly busy.

With larger hardscape areas, pattern and proportion matter just as much as color.

A walkway can be functional without feeling ordinary.

This North Bend, WA project pairs large stepping stones with decorative river rock and a dark paver border, creating a clean path that still feels connected to the surrounding landscape. The open spacing between each stone adds texture while helping the walkway blend naturally into the garden.

It’s a simple example of how mixing materials can add character without overcomplicating the design.

Curves and contrast can turn a simple walkway into a real design feature.

This Woodinville, WA project uses a flowing paver layout with two contrasting border colors to define the path and carry the design into the larger landing near the home. Instead of forcing straight lines into the yard, the curves create a softer transition that works naturally with the surrounding landscape.

A well-planned walkway should guide movement while also adding character to the space.

A good walkway should feel like part of the landscape, not something dropped on top of it.

This Snohomish, WA project uses a sweeping paver path that follows the natural setting, with a dark border and low retaining wall adding definition along the curve. The mix of warm and cool tones also works especially well against the surrounding evergreens and ferns.

Curves can be a great way to soften a hardscape and create a more natural transition through wooded properties.

A well-built paver surface can make even a narrow space between homes feel clean, intentional, and finished.

This Seattle, WA project uses a simple running pattern and neutral tones to create a durable surface that complements the modern architecture without competing with it. The consistent layout also helps visually open up the space while keeping it practical for everyday use.

Good hardscaping isn’t always about making a big statement. Sometimes it’s about making every square foot work better.

A walkway doesn’t have to be a straight line from point A to point B.

This Edmonds, WA project uses gentle curves to guide the eye toward a circular paver patio, while the dark border gives the entire layout a crisp, finished edge. The result is a simple hardscape design that adds movement and creates a natural destination within the yard.

Thoughtful shapes and contrasting details can make even a straightforward patio and walkway feel intentional.

A walkway can add just as much character as a patio.

This Woodinville, WA project uses sweeping curves and contrasting paver borders to create a path that feels naturally connected to the landscape. The layered border detail gives the walkway definition, while the flowing shape works around the existing garden beds and opens into the yard.

Thoughtful curves can soften a hardscape and make even a simple walkway feel custom to the property.
