Not every Mechanical Integrity concern starts with a major failure. Sometimes it’s corrosion that looks a little worse than last time. Damaged insulation. A temporary repair that has been there longer than anyone remembers. The same leak showing up time and time again. Or, something that just doesn’t look like it used to.

Those are the moments worth slowing down and taking a closer look.

Good MI programs make it easier to spot changes, document what’s happening, and decide what deserves additional attention before a manageable issue becomes a bigger one.

Have you seen this at your facility? What was the root cause?

The frost and ice in this photo are a sign that moisture is getting where it shouldn’t. This is what happens when warm air gets past the v***r barrier.

In a cold space, even a small gap in the v***r barrier, insulation, or roofing system can allow warm, humid air to reach a cold surface. From there, condensation forms, freezes, and starts creating a much bigger maintenance issue.

Over time, that can mean wet insulation, lost efficiency, recurring ice buildup, and more damage to repair later.

The fix starts with finding where the barrier failed and getting it properly sealed back up.

“OP1 is for beginners.” Think again!

OP1 covers the fundamentals, but that doesn’t mean the class is only valuable for someone who is brand new to industrial refrigeration.

For newer operators, OP1 helps build a strong foundation. For experienced operators, it can be a chance to revisit the why behind the work they already do every day, strengthen system knowledge, and connect the fundamentals back to what they see in the field.

The refrigeration cycle. Refrigerant properties. Compressors. Lubrication. Ev***rators. Condensers. Purging. Safety. These are the building blocks of a strong operator at any experience level.

Experience matters. So does understanding what’s happening inside the system.

If you’ve been putting off OP1 because you thought it was “too basic,” it may be time to take another look.
