As we head into our fifth year of the no-dig journey, we’re proud to say we were driving steel posts before it became the popular thing to do.

We chose this method because we believed fence installation could be stronger, cleaner, and more reliable—and the results speak for themselves: zero callbacks related to our driven posts.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we’re not finished. The Fence Company will continue testing better materials, improving installation methods, and pushing the fencing industry forward.

We didn’t follow the trend. We helped set it.

Finished up another cedar privacy fence in Oxford this week.

This project was right around 350 feet of 6’ cedar privacy fence and turned out great. The homeowner wanted more privacy while still keeping the backyard looking natural with all the trees surrounding the property.

One thing we like about cedar is that no two fences look exactly alike. Every board has its own grain pattern and color variation, which gives the fence a lot of character compared to treated pine.

We appreciate the opportunity to earn the business and are proud of how this one came out. On to the next one.

One of the most common questions we get is:

“How long do I need to wait to stain my fence after it rains?”

The answer is longer than most people think.

Just because the surface feels dry doesn’t mean the wood is dry. Wood acts like a sponge and can hold moisture below the surface for days after a rain, especially here in Mississippi where humidity stays high.

If stain is applied too soon, it may not pe*****te properly, can dry unevenly, and may not last as long as it should.

As a general rule, we recommend waiting at least 48 hours after a normal rain and sometimes 72 hours or more after a heavy rain. Factors like shade, humidity, temperature, and the type of wood all play a role.

This is also one of the reasons we prefer professionally pre-staining certain cedar products before installation. It allows the stain to pe*****te properly under controlled conditions rather than hoping the weather cooperates.

A little patience can add years to the appearance and performance of your fence.

To stain or not to stain?

Both of these fences were installed around the same time… roughly 2 years ago. The only major difference is one was professionally pre-stained and the other was left natural.

A lot of homeowners love the fresh cedar look at first, and we get it. But over time, UV exposure, rain, moisture, and weather start taking a toll on untreated wood. That silver/gray aging, uneven coloring, drying, and weathering happens much faster than most people expect.

The stained fence still holds its rich color and added protection because the stain acts as a barrier against the elements while also helping reduce moisture absorption and sun damage.

One of the biggest advantages of Japanese cedar pickets is their lower moisture content, which allows us to professionally pre-stain them before installation for a more even finish and longer-lasting appearance.

This photo is a perfect real-world example of why we strongly recommend staining your fence if you want it looking newer, longer.

Another teardown and replace completed in Olive Branch, MS. 💪

This project included 230’ of 6ft cedar privacy fencing with upgraded steel posts for added strength and long-term durability. We removed the old fence and replaced it with fresh cedar built to hold up while keeping a clean, natural look.

Steel posts are one of the best upgrades you can make to a wood fence — helping prevent leaning and giving the fence a longer lifespan while still keeping the warm cedar appearance homeowners want.
