“All we do is win in OKC.”- Mayor David Holt
We are quoting the mayor this morning as the city celebrates our latest win!
OKC voters just passed another $2.7B in city investments. Since MAPS first passed in 1993, we have voted 15 times to keep investing in OKC, making our total city investment over $10B. This time, just like the others, not a single proposal failed. 15-0. Every part passed with 76% to 85% approval. This is what a city that believes in progress looks like:
$2.7B approved overwhelmingly by the citizens of OKC
547 projects over the next 10 years
Nearly half the budget dedicated to infrastructure. Streets. Drainage. Sidewalks.
No increase in property taxes. We’ll say that one twice- NO INCREASE IN PROPERTY TAXES. Property taxes are the same as they were in the 80’s in OKC. Yes, that’s right, the 1980’s. We are still paying last century’s taxes. Still 16 mills.
New parks. New trails. Upgraded golf courses and ballparks. Enhancements to major arenas, venues, and our fairgrounds.
Major investments in public safety:
• A new police station
• 3 new fire stations
• A new police and fire training center
• A new court annex next to police headquarters
• New technology for the Family Justice Center, operated by Palomar
• 17 city projects for maintenance, data and services facilities
Inclusions for housing and community:
• $175 million in affordable housing
• A new library
• Expansions and updates to 5 more libraries and the Clara Luper Civil Rights Center
• A new city park
• Improvements and upgrades to 13 city parks and recreation facilities
• New trails
• New buses
• Downtown parking solutions
This bond is a bold commitment to the future of our city — and a clear message from voters:
We believe in Oklahoma City.
We’re not slowing down.
All we do is win in OKC.
Today, the people of Oklahoma City have approved the largest infrastructure initiative in city history by the most overwhelming margin in living memory.
Voters approved all 11 bond issue questions with at least 76% support, all the way up to 85% support. And so, $2.7 billion will be deployed over the next ten years to meet our city’s most critical infrastructure needs.
Starting with the passage of MAPS in 1993 and including today’s bond issue vote, the City of Oklahoma City is now 15-0 in tax initiatives to fund capital projects, with a total public investment nearing $10 billion. The people of Oklahoma City are committed to investing in ourselves, and we have seen a return on that investment many times over.
I thank the voters, the City Council, the City Manager and his team, the Greater OKC Chamber and the campaign coalition for today’s success. Congratulations to the people of Oklahoma City. Our remarkable renaissance story continues.
