Sometimes I sit back and wonder what life would look like if I carried a little less. 🍁🍂
What would life look like if I didn’t have six children, if I only had one or two? If I didn’t have 130+ animals depending on me, a farm to tend to, a mercantile to run, a concrete and landscape company to help manage, and six children to homeschool?
What would life look like without the weight of an invisible disability, without the struggles of past trauma, and without the constant desire to become a better woman, wife, mother, and person than I was the day before?
Would I be less stressed? Would I have more time? Would life feel a little lighter? Would I be happier?
And then, in moments like today, as I sit here listening to the much-needed rain fall outside, I am reminded of something so incredibly humbling.
I am living in the middle of a life I once prayed for.
The children I sometimes feel overwhelmed raising are the very children I prayed to hold.
The animals that require so much of my time and energy are part of the life I dreamed of building.
The businesses that come with endless responsibilities are also the very things that have given our family the freedom to live this life together.
The home, the land, the chaos, the laughter, the early mornings, the late nights, the endless chores, and even the hard days are all pieces of prayers that God has answered along the way.
And while I am incredibly grateful, I am also human.🌷
Some days are heavy. Some days I feel stretched beyond what I thought I could handle. Some days I question whether I have taken on too much. And some days, despite giving everything I have, I still wonder if I am doing enough.🥹
I am still healing from things I don’t always speak about. Still learning patience. Still learning to be slow to anger. Still learning to give myself grace. Still trying to become a better version of myself, not because I have it all figured out, but because I know there is always room to grow.
And through it all, God continues to shape me.
Every difficult season has taught me something. Every hurdle has strengthened me in ways I didn’t know I needed. Every heavy day has given me a deeper appreciation for the quiet, ordinary moments that are so easy to overlook.
I don’t believe gratitude means pretending that life isn’t hard. I believe gratitude is being able to acknowledge the hardships while still recognizing the blessings.
Because the truth is, I wouldn’t trade the beautiful life we’ve built simply because some days are difficult.
What an honor it is to be a wife.
What a privilege it is to be a mother to six beautiful, healthy children.
What a blessing it is to care for God’s creatures, to work the land, to build businesses alongside my family, and to have the freedom to create a life that reflects what matters most to us.
And what a gift it is to be given another day to grow, to love, to learn, and to do a little better than yesterday.
Maybe happiness isn’t found in having fewer responsibilities or a life without struggles. Maybe sometimes it’s found in slowing down long enough to recognize just how much beauty exists in the middle of it all.
So today, as the rain falls over our little farm, I’m choosing to sit in this moment.
To appreciate the life around me.
To thank God for the prayers He has answered, the lessons He continues to teach me, and even the seasons that have stretched me.
Because even on the hardest days, there is so much to be thankful for.
This life isn’t always easy. It’s messy, exhausting, demanding, and beautifully imperfect. But it is ours. And it is filled with answered prayers. 🙏🏻
Lord, help me never become so overwhelmed by the weight of my blessings that I forget what a privilege it is to carry them. And teach me when it’s time to set some of that weight down and simply enjoy the life You’ve given me.🙌
