Pro tip: your bathroom exhaust fan is the cheapest mold prevention tool you own. But a lot of them vent into the attic instead of outside, which just moves moisture somewhere worse.

Quick test: hold a tissue to the fan while it's running. If it doesn't stick, it's not pulling air.

October is Fire Prevention Month. And kitchen grease fires are still the number one cause of house fires across the country.

Here's what goes wrong most often: grease catches fire in a pan, and your instinct tells you to throw water on it. Don't. Water on a grease fire creates an explosion of flames. We've seen kitchens go from a small pan fire to total loss because of that one reaction.

If a pan catches fire:
➡️ Cover it with a metal lid to smother the flames
➡️ Turn off the burner
➡️ Leave it covered until completely cool
➡️ Never try to move a burning pan

Here's a look at one of the tools we use to get water out fast. This sump pump does some serious work, pulling water from crawl spaces, foundations, and anywhere else it's pooling where it shouldn't be. It sucks it all up and runs a hose straight out to the road so the drying process can get started.
