Marble? The Kenny Loggins of countertops 🎶
It’s a true soft rock, sitting at just 3 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Marble is softer than granite and quartzite, and over time it develops a patina, a soft, lived-in character that tells the story of your home.
Treat it right and it ages beautifully:
- Seal it properly and reseal as recommended to protect against stains
- Wipe up spills quickly, especially acidic ones like lemon, w**e, tomato, and vinegar, which can etch the surface
- Always use a cutting board, since knives can scratch marble (and marble dulls your knives too)
- Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, never harsh or acidic sprays
💡 Pro tip: If you love marble but worry about wear, ask about a honed finish. Its matte surface hides etching and everyday marks far better than a high polish.
And then there’s the history...
Most quarried marble is tens to hundreds of millions of years old. If it’s Calacatta, it comes from the mountains of Italy and began forming nearly 200 million years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth 🦕
Prized for its bright white background and bold, dramatic veining, Calacatta is one of the rarest and most sought-after marbles in the world.
No two slabs are ever alike.
