Io LandArch is a woman-owned landscape architecture and urban design studio, based in Ogden, Utah.

We weave culture and nature to create super-natural places – places that are imbued with a sense of connection, context, and meaning. Io takes a holistic approach to landscape architecture - from large sites with many demands and purposes to small, quiet spaces for gathering family and friends - we believe that design starts with an understanding of how nature creates a space for human connection. Each of our projects takes into consideration the desired functionality and pairs stylistic elements with sustainable features to achieve a space which not only meets the needs of today but provides a thoughtful platform for future growth and development.

In 2014, Io LandArch completed a historic landscape survey of the Union Stockyards in Ogden, documenting the expansive history of this unique site. The work was completed as part of Ogden City’s mitigation for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for redevelopment of the site using HUD funds.

Nestled in the scenic Ogden Valley, Fox Farm is a captivating five-acre lakeside hobby farm designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. We've worked on numerous projects for this client over the years, most recently helping them design a pool for the back yard, pictured here.

Last month we welcomed Johan Vanzeben to the Io LandArch team! A licensed landscape architect with more than a decade of experience in design and project management, Johan brings a unique combination of landscape architecture, architecture, real estate development, and construction administration experience to our team.

Across all his project work, Johan brings a practical understanding of how landscape architecture can help sites work better for the people who use them while responding to the history, climate, and character of each unique place.

For this custom-built ski residence in Alta, Utah, the rift between the two major building elements provided an opportunity to integrate a series of corten retaining walls that complete the dialogue between structure and site.

Fort Deseret is the last example of a mud fort in Utah, built in the 1860s for protection during the Black Hawk War. The walls, built with mud and straw, were originally 10 feet high and 3 feet thick.

As a subconsultant on the project, Io LandArch developed options for Fort Deseret to be an interpretive site, which would allow visitors learn about the rich history home to this landscape. We also put together planting recommendations and created concept imagery.

We’re so glad to have Tonya Rose back with Io LandArch! From 2019-2024, Tonya worked with our team on landmark projects like Platforms Art Park, Sundance Inn, Nine Rails Streetscapes, Promise Park, Weiss Residence, and the Pioneer Park Cultural Landscape Report.
