Is your pool's pressure gauge trying to tell you something?

Think of your pressure gauge as the heartbeat monitor for your pool's circulation system. It's one of the easiest ways to catch small problems before they turn into expensive repairs.

Here's what you should know:

✅ Normal Pressure
When your filter is freshly cleaned, your pressure gauge will usually read somewhere between 10-25 PSI (every pool is a little different). Take note of YOUR normal reading because that's your pool's healthy baseline.

📈 Pressure Too High?
If your pressure climbs 8-10 PSI above your normal reading, your filter is telling you it's full of dirt and debris.

For sand filters ➡️ Time to backwash.
For cartridge filters ➡️ Time to clean (or replace) the cartridges.

Ignoring it means:
❌ Reduced water circulation
❌ Poor sanitization
❌ Extra wear and tear on your pump

📉 Pressure Too Low?
A pressure drop usually means your system isn't getting enough water.
Common culprits include:
🔹 Low water level
🔹 Clogged skimmer basket
🔹 Air leak in the system

🚨 Don't Ignore It!
If your pressure ever climbs above 30 PSI, shut your system down and investigate. Excessive pressure can damage your filter, plumbing, and equipment.

💡 A quick glance at your pressure gauge once or twice a week can save you hundreds (or even thousands) in repairs.

Here's the truth: During the hot summer months, your pool pump works overtime to circulate water, filter out debris, and help keep your sanitizer doing its job. Running it too little can lead to cloudy water, algae growth, and unnecessary headaches.

💡 As a general rule, most pools should run their pump 8-12 hours per day during the summer, depending on your pool size, usage, and equipment.
