Deadwooding in tree care and why..

Deadwooding is the critical tree care practice of removing dead, dying, or diseased branches to enhance safety, improve structural integrity, and boost tree health. It prevents falling limbs, reduces pest/disease spread, and allows the tree to focus resources on healthy growth. This maintenance is generally safe year-round, though best done outside of spring.

Safety: Removes hazardous branches that may fall during storms, protecting people and property.

Tree Health: Eliminates entry points for decay, fungi, and insects.

Growth: Encourages new, healthy growth by improving light pe*******on through the canopy.

Tree work and cranes
When are Cranes Necessary for Tree Removal? - Tree Care Trimming ...
Crane-assisted tree work is a highly specialized, efficient, and safe method for removing large or hazardous trees, often reducing risks to property compared to traditional climbing. Clients should ensure the company uses certified operators, follows OSHA protocols, and has a clear plan for site access and debris removal.

Safety & Qualifications: Ensure the arborist and operator are experienced, licensed, and certified. The crew should use appropriate rigging, slings, and hitches.

Site Impact: While cranes reduce ground damage from dragging debris, they require heavy equipment access. Potential hazards like overhead power lines, underground utilities, and ground stability should be assessed prior.

Process: The crane lifts, holds, and removes large sections of the tree, often by cutting them while suspended to avoid damage to surrounding structures.

Efficiency: Crane removal is generally faster, which can lead to lower labor costs despite the rental fee for the crane.

What is mistletoe and how to keep it from spreading.

Mistletoe is a parasitic plant removed by pruning infested branches 1–2 feet below the attachment point or by cutting it flush to the bark and wrapping with black plastic to block light, forcing the plant to die. Regular, yearly maintenance in winter (when the tree is dormant) is essential to stop regrowth, as its roots pe*****te deep into the host tree's wood.

Pruning (Most Effective): Cut the infected branch at least 1 foot (or 1–2 feet for severe cases) below the point of infection. If possible, remove the entire branch back to the nearest parent branch or trunk to ensure all roots are removed.

Exclusion (Light blocking): If the mistletoe is on a major branch or trunk that cannot be pruned, cut the mistletoe flush with the bark. Wrap the area tightly with black polyethylene plastic and secure it with tape or twine (we refer tape)to exclude light. This often kills the mistletoe within two years.

Safety: For high branches, use a pole pruner or hire an ISA-certified arborist, as using ladders for tree work is dangerous. Avoid removing more than 15-20% of a tree's branches at once to prevent killing the host.

Chemicals: While some growth regulators (e.g., Florel) can temporarily kill the top foliage, they rarely kill the root system, requiring repeat applications.

Before the first cut is made we make sure all ppe is in place.
Essential PPE in tree care includes head (helmet), eye (safety glasses/shield), and hearing protection, plus chainsaw pants/chaps, and sturdy boots with traction, with climbing workers also needing harnesses and lanyards, all crucial for preventing injuries from falling debris, chainsaw cuts, and equipment impact. Proper PPE is vital for both climbing and ground crews to protect against hazards like flying woodchips, saw kickback, and abrasions. This protects all employees and customers from unseen accidents
