Kitchen confidential: our latest newsletter explores some of the hidden kitchens we’ve designed recently.

In this one, a finished pantry that sits apart from the main kitchen, dining nook and open living space, conceals a prep sink, extra storage, a backup refrigerator, a built-in espresso machine and a hidden home office. An open pass-through offers a peek into the space from the dining nook, giving each side a nice view of the other. Floating metal shelves allow us to play with foreground and background views while provide a little extra display and storage space from each side.

Repeat client!
While we love making beautiful and memorable spaces, the other aspect that is really important to us is providing a process and experience that is fun, transparent and engaging for our clients. We know we’ve done this when they come back and ask us to work on another phase or project with them.

This room is a great example of that process at work. We maintained the existing wood ceiling that gives the house so much of its character, then chose an oversized statement light fixture — over 7’ in diameter — as a way to make an impact without touching the wood. It was a bold move, and one our clients started out unsure of. Detailed, to-scale renderings of the room and the fixture gave them the confidence to say yes to something so dramatic. From there, we worked together to select furniture that was cozy and tactile, built for lounging and enjoying family time fireside. These were mixed with collected pieces from their extensive travels for a truly personal space. Many other alterations were made in adjacent rooms and the choices made here provided the aesthetic to weave them all together.

We are excited about the possibility of extending the work we did, further into the landscape and yet-to-be-claimed spaces— in the house and on the property.

We're hiring!

Our small, creative office is looking for a good-hearted and super talented team member to take on a variety of roles for architecture and interior residential / multi-family housing and small commercial projects.  We need a hard-working individual who is interested in growing with us in a long-term position; one who can wear many different hats on multiple projects and who is interested in growing their skills in a relaxed and positive work environment.

Simply put, candidates must be skilled in AutoCAD and have a degree from an accredited architecture or interior design program. Ideally 3-6 years experience.

Email CV and portfolio to [email protected].  No calls accepted

Flush with the deck. Flush with the horizon. This spa was designed to disappear — its surface level with the ipe decking, so the only thing between the bather and the Bay is the sky.

A flush-mount install asks for precision at every layer: framing, waterproofing, drainage, and a crane operator with good aim. The reward is a deck that reads as one continuous plane, all the way to the Bay. One quiet line. A whole lot of coordination behind it.

Given the epic view and exposure of this site, we chose to mostly use matte surfaces to softly bounce light—but with little moments of shine and sparkle to reflect the city and bay beyond
