A great day of cycling, connection, and giving back! 🚲

Our BKF team joined fellow riders and community partners at this year's Bike to Hope event to support City of Hope and its mission to advance cancer and diabetes research and care.

In addition to hitting the road, was proud to contribute as a $10,000 sponsor, helping support research and care that make a difference for individuals and families.

Supporting the next generation of civil engineers starts with opportunities to learn, lead, and stay connected to the profession.

At the ASCE Sacramento Section Dinner, BKF’s Cassie Blaufuss, Isaac Yang, and Mark Horn were recognized as recipients of the Alfred R. Golze Scholarship. As students and recent graduates involved with ASCE Student Chapters, they represent a new generation of civil engineers building the foundation for their careers. The Alfred R. Golze Scholarship program helps promising students continue their engineering education and take the next steps toward entering the profession.

Raymond Macy was also recognized with the Outstanding Branch Officer Award, highlighting the impact early-career professionals can make through service and involvement in their local engineering community.

Organizations like ASCE provide an important pathway for emerging engineers to develop professionally, build relationships, and contribute to their industry. Congratulations to Cassie, Isaac, Mark, and Raymond, and thank you for representing BKF.

California’s 2030 seismic deadline is approaching, but for healthcare systems, compliance is only part of the challenge.

Hospitals must also consider whether the infrastructure surrounding their facilities can support what comes next: expanded campuses, new acute-care facilities, uninterrupted operations and greater resilience in the face of future disruptions. That means thinking about water, wastewater, emergency power, access and construction phasing long before a project goes vertical.

Congratulations to Vitina Mandella, PE, LEED AP, QSD/P, on earning the CREW Silicon Valley Impact Award! The recognition reflects Vitina’s leadership and contributions to CREW Silicon Valley, where she helped guide the chapter through a period of rebuilding and growth.

“When I joined the CREW Silicon Valley Executive Board, we were emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic and rethinking what our chapter needed to be in a changing professional environment,” Vitina said. “Over the past four years, we worked to identify gaps, rebuild with purpose, and create a stronger vision for the future. It wasn't easy, but seeing the positive impact on the Board and chapter in addition to receiving this award makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Through CREW, Vitina strengthened her approach to leading through inspiration, building trust, and creating a shared vision. She continues to bring those lessons to her leadership within BKF’s Land Development team.

For Vitina, that leadership also means investing in others. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing someone grow, find their voice, and realize they are capable of more than they thought possible,” she said. Her commitment to mentorship, leadership, and professional growth continues to make an impact both within BKF and the broader industry.

Meet Callie Amoaku, BKF’s Technical Manager of Biology in Southern California. 🐝

Callie’s work helps project teams understand biological considerations early, from site selection to environmental review and permitting.

One of the species she works with is Crotch’s bumble bee, a candidate for listing under the California Endangered Species Act. While the bee may be small, its presence can have big implications for a project.

By bringing biology into the conversation early, Callie helps teams identify potential challenges and find practical ways to keep projects moving.

A new chapter is taking shape at Candlestick Point in San Francisco.

More than a decade after the final game at Candlestick Park, BKF’s Land Development Principal James Dallosta and Project Manager Alyssa Jacobson joined project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of the next phase of this major San Francisco waterfront redevelopment.

Before new homes, parks, businesses, and public spaces can take shape, the infrastructure comes first. BKF is helping lay that foundation through civil engineering, surveying, stormwater management, utilities, street and transit improvements, permitting, and construction support, including design and permitting for a new outfall to the Bay.

It’s complex work, requiring careful coordination across challenging site conditions, multiple agencies, and phased construction. The result will help unlock a connected waterfront neighborhood planned for more than 7,200 homes, employment space, parks, and other community uses.

We’re proud to help move this long-awaited transformation forward.

Two BKF projects were recognized at last night’s APA California – Northern Awards Ceremony!

The North Berkeley BART Transit-Oriented Development captured an Excellence Award in the Urban Design category. BKF served as the civil and water engineering partner to Lotus Water, led by Project Manager Bryce Wilson.

The Lake Merritt Station Area Plan earned a Merit Award in the Implementation category, with Project Manager Simon North leading BKF’s civil engineering efforts. The two-phase development will bring a mix of market-rate and affordable housing, community-serving commercial space, and significant public improvements to the area surrounding the Lake Merritt BART station.

BKF supported client East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) on both projects. Congratulations to Bryce, Simon, EBALDC, and our project partners whose work and collaboration contributed to these two award-winning projects!
