My building permit was approved today, the first house on this property is a go. Here’s how much it’s cost me so far! Would you pay this much?

For years I’ve driven Ford F-150, Super Duty, Ranger & Maverick, as a kid it was ‘90’s Ford Rangers, as a tradesman it’s been multiple F350’s. I got the chance to chat with the CEO of Ford, Jim Farley. Such a down to earth guy!

Today, I get to take the stage and talk about the skilled trades and what the blue collar path looks like moving forward.

Thanks for inviting me to Detroit for the ACCELERATE the Essential Economy Conference

Insulbrick in the wild! This stuff was used a lot back in the 1940’s and ‘50’s post war. It was cheap, quick to install and required zero maintenance. Asphalt shingle technology turned into an exterior siding.. Covering up perfectly good wood siding!

I think I’m turning into a mountain person.. PG&E showed up the other day and after seeing bears, coyotes and having people trespass, I wasn’t sure what to expect next.

Luckily they were just telling me I’m not getting power to this property for a year, and to be patient. No big deal.

This one simple detail will save a lot of houses from fire destruction! Vulcan Vents utilize a honeycomb-like shape inside that expand when exposed to dangerously hot temps, such as a fire. To prevent the spread of embers or airflow into your attic space, further spreading the fire, these vents close off air flow.

4” Puck Soffit Vents: $25/ea
Roof Vents: $107/ea

On a traditional 1,800SF home, we’ll use around $4-6K in Vulcan Vents. These are one time use and would need to get replaced in the case of fire, no different than fire sprinklers damaging the interior of your home. Our goal should always be to save the structure.

Do you like this siding? It’s awful to work with, but it looks clean and it’s durable. In California, WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface) areas require homes to be built with wildfire in mind. 🔥 From ember-resistant vents and ignition-resistant siding to roofing, eaves, windows, and decking, WUI requirements help protect homes from embers, radiant heat, and direct flames.

We’re building an upper deck for the shipping container build out! It doesn’t get much cooler than this. Having a 10x20’ spot to hang out is going to be awesome.

It gets hard and it cracks, the two promises with concrete. This was the first building on-site, our utility / storage room.
