🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚧

The new Deerwood Roundabout at North High Street (Hwy. 61) and Deerwood Drive will open to full traffic later today.

Fronabarger Concreters, Inc. is opening the roundabout to normal traffic flow, and all construction-related lane restrictions, temporary signals, and detours will be removed.

A few final items still remain, including completion of one splitter island, some seeding work, and pavement re-striping. These remaining tasks will be completed with traffic flowing or under minimal flagging operations.

As drivers begin using the new roundabout, please slow down, yield to traffic already in the roundabout, and follow posted signs and pavement markings.

Thank you to our residents, businesses, and visitors for your patience throughout the Deerwood Roundabout Project.

Construction of the Route K corridor project in Cape Girardeau County is slated to begin this May. The project includes constructing a roundabout at Notre Dame High School, adding a center two-way left turn lane west of County Road 319 to Cape Girardeau, and adding an eastbound lane starting at Notre Dame Drive and tying into the existing eastbound 5-lane section near Wal-Mart's entrance.

Work will be staged and will be underway Monday, May 11, 2026 through Monday, Nov. 1, 2027, weather permitting. The stages will include:

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟭: Work will occur on the north side of Route K and includes constructing the new Notre Dame Drive and extending two box culverts.
▪️During this stage, work will be completed in phases from CRD 319 to east of Notre Dame Drive, Notre Dame Drive to east of CRD 317, and then from west of CRD 317 to Siemers Drive.
▪️This stage will have minimal impacts on traffic.
▪️Tentatively, Stage 1 will be underway May 2026 through fall 2026.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟮: Work will occur on the south side of Route K and includes a majority of the roundabout construction.
▪️During this stage, work will be completed in phases from west of CRD 319 to east of Notre Dame Drive, west of Notre Dame Drive to East of Onyx Lane (roundabout construction), and West of Onyx Lane to Cape Girardeau.
▪️Tentatively, Stage 2 will begin in late fall 2026.
▪️This stage will have minimal impacts on traffic.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟯: The north side of the roundabout will be constructed in approximately 1.5 to 2 months.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟰: Work will remove the old Notre Dame Drive and add pavement east of Notre Dame on the south side of Route K. This will be underway for approximately 1.5 to 2 months.

This project will be completed in an effort to improve safety and traffic flow along the Route K corridor.

The route will remain open throughout construction, with minor lane shifts under flagger control. As needed, the driving lane will be reduced to a 10-foot width restriction.

🚧 Traffic Alert: Deerwood Roundabout Lane Shift Begins March 23 🚧

Starting Monday morning, March 23, new traffic patterns will be in place along North High Street (Hwy. 61) as work continues on the Deerwood Drive Roundabout Project.

UPDATE: Recent rains have this plan slightly off schedule, but crews still plan to open Cape Rock any day now.

ORIGINAL:
Cape Rock Drive Transportation Trust Fund improvements are almost done, and crews will return to Perryville!

✅ Cape Rock Drive will open Wednesday, April 30.

⛔Perryville between Lexington & Cape Rock will close. Northbound will close April 30, and southbound from Lexington will close May 1.

🚧 Most of the Lexington & Perryville intersection will close soon after. Only southbound traffic from Perryville will be able to turn right/west onto Lexington. All other access will be shutdown.

🚧 The Cape Rock & Perryville intersection will remain open.

⛔ Work continues on Lexington between Perryville and Sherwood.

Construction schedules are approximate and depend on weather and other factors. Drivers bypassing road closure signs may get stuck in the construction zone and need to turn around. Use other routes for the safety of the workers, accessing the work zone only when necessary (in route to properties in the work zone). Affected residents will be contacted about their driveway access.

Cape Girardeau Street Patching

We will begin patching work along Perryville Road from Sherwood to Lexington on April 30th, 2025. There will be partial road closures and some driveways will be temporarily blocked.

All through traffic will be detoured while this work is occurring. All local traffic will be one way in and one way out at the Cape Rock intersection. The Lexington Perryville intersection will be closed to all traffic. All side street access will be limited to local residences only. At times that access to your driveway will be limited - one of our crew members will inform you before this happens.

Please pay close attention to all the construction signage and traffic control in the area to keep everyone safe.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time. If you have questions, please contact our office at 573-266-3212.

As of today, the road closed signs on U.S 61 in Jackson are a thing of the past!

The roadway has reopened following a construction project to add turn lanes at Mary Street and the Jackson City Park entrance, make pavement improvements and replace the bridge over Hubble Creek at Jackson City Park. Utility upgrades were also completed simultaneously. This section of the roadway is located from Parkview Street to North Hope Street.

As the project was underway, a significant amount of additional work was added to the contract, which will serve travelers for decades to come. MoDOT appreciates the patience of local residents and drivers as this project was delivered.
