A full landscape redesign isn’t about adding features — it’s about creating cohesion.

Hardscape, planting, structures, and functional elements all need to work together. The role of planting in particular is often underestimated; it introduces depth, seasonal change, and contrast that hard materials alone can’t achieve.

Choice of materials is equally important, as clients want their landscape to aesthetically complement the property and blend seamlessly from indoors to outdoors.

Ed and our team will guide you through the whole decision-making process to help design and build your vision for the perfect outcome.

We’re currently building a number of pools across Northern Virginia, including this project in Leesburg.

This design includes a compact pool with an integrated spa, waterfall feature, tanning ledge, and bench seating, alongside a porcelain tile pool deck for durability and clean detailing.

Projects like this are less about size and more about how the space is planned and used.

If you’re considering a pool for your property this year, now is the time to start the design process. [email protected]

Built for a long-term client in Great Falls, this potting shed was designed to sit quietly within a woodland setting, using natural materials and colours to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

Structures like this can serve multiple functions - functional storage, a home office or gym, or even a garden room. Utilising outside space adds to the home without compromising the main liveable areas. But better still, it brings you closer to nature, too. 🌱🌳

Outdoor kitchens are only as good as how they’re detailed.

Integrated refrigeration and storage allow the space to function properly, rather than relying on constant trips back into the house. Positioning under a pergola provides shade and makes the area usable for longer periods.

This Hamilton project is set up for exactly that!

We're seeing high demand for outdoor kitchens across Northern Virginia at the moment, so if you're interested in a new project, contact us to discuss your requirements.

This Arlington property didn’t have the luxury of space, so the layout had to do the work.

We introduced defined seating areas and an outdoor grill, then used layered planting to soften the edges and bring a sense of depth into what is a relatively compact footprint.

Smaller projects often require more discipline, but the transformation here was quite significant.

Ed sharing some insight from a project currently underway in Rock Springs.

We’re integrating a pool alongside an existing basketball court, which brings its own set of challenges around layout and levels. It’s a good example of how we approach working within an existing space, rather than starting from scratch.

One of our award-winning designs! This project brings together a pool, outdoor kitchen, and fire feature within a single, coherent layout.

Each element serves a clear function, but the success of the space comes from how they relate to one another — movement between areas, connectivity to the garden, and how the space is used throughout the day.

See our latest feature in .

As outdoor living continues to evolve, we no longer view the backyard as a single-use space - we are moving toward designing it as a fully integrated extension of the home.

This feature explores how thoughtful landscape architecture can create layered, functional outdoor environments designed for relaxing, entertaining, and everyday living — from material selection and planting to lighting, spacing, and long-term usability.

Grateful to Modern Luxury for the feature and the opportunity to share more about our approach to residential landscape architecture and design-build work across Northern Virginia.

As the temperature drops in the evening, most outdoor spaces get abandoned.

A well-positioned fire feature changes that completely. It extends the usability of the space, adds a natural focal point, and creates a place people actually want to gather.

It’s a small intervention that has a disproportionate impact on how often the garden is used.

Contact us to discuss how we can transform your outdoor space, day through to night time.

Can you spot the difference?

One of the biggest challenges in landscape design is removing ambiguity before construction begins. Our process uses detailed 3D modelling and reality capture to resolve levels, materials, and spatial relationships early.

What clients see at design stage is very close to what gets built — not an interpretation, but a plan that has already been thought through in full.
