Most days you’ll find me behind a computer — numbers, payroll, estimates, scheduling, bills, and all the behind-the-scenes stuff that keeps Throwback moving.

But sometimes a BIG job requires all hands on deck.

And when you own a small business, “all hands” really does mean ALL hands.

So I traded the computer for work clothes and headed into the field to help wherever another set of hands was needed.

I helped. I learned some things. I got absolutely filthy. And I gained an even greater appreciation for just how hard our guys work every day.

Eventually, I ended up sitting on the sidewalk looking like this and thinking my spreadsheets weren’t so bad after all.

And YES — those are Friday the 13th socks!
It’s October. I have standards.

Sometimes you’re the Company Controller.
Sometimes you’re the apprentice.
Sometimes you’re just the extra set of hands your team needs to get a big job done.

That’s small business ♥️

When your plumber is also the cleaning crew…

Fixing the plumbing is one thing.

Leaving the place looking like we were never there?
That matters too.

After cutting through flooring, opening up a concrete slab, repairing an extensive failed sewer line, hauling material in and out, and putting everything back together… there was still one job left.

Clean. It. Up.

Floors cleaned.
Bathrooms cleaned.
Dust and construction mess cleaned up.
Furniture back where it belongs.

Because “we fixed the sewer” doesn’t mean much if we leave you with a disaster to deal with afterward.

Around here, apparently plumber, concrete guy, and cleaning crew are all part of the job description!

When your plumber is also the concrete guy… 😂

“Plumber” is apparently a pretty loose job description around here.

One minute you’re repairing a failed sewer line under a building.

The next you’re on your knees with a trowel, finishing concrete like this was the plan all along.

Cut the slab.
Fix the plumbing.
Pour it back.
Finish it up.
Move on to the next section.

We may have to add “occasionally concrete guys” to the Throwback résumé!

Nearly 4 Tons Later… 😳

You’d never know by looking at that finished floor what happened underneath it.

This was an extensive failed sewer line beneath a concrete slab, which meant there was no simple way to get to it. Flooring had to come up. Concrete had to be opened. The failed sewer had to be accessed and repaired. Then came the part people don’t always think about — putting everything back.

By the time this project was finished, Colton had moved just under FOUR TONS of fresh sand and concrete back into this building. 🤯

Four. Tons.

And every bit of it came in and was placed by an actual human— not magically teleported into the building. 😂

These photos barely capture how much work went into this one. From opening the slab and making the underground repairs to rebuilding the floor and getting the space back together, this was one of those jobs that reminds you just how physical plumbing can be.

We’re pretty dang proud of this one.
This space supports an amazing cause ♥️ Because sometimes plumbing isn’t changing a faucet or replacing a water heater.

Sometimes it’s moving nearly 8,000 pounds of material to fix what nobody can even see to keep a community resource open!

🎃 IT’S OCTOBER 1ST. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. 🎃

We have officially been given permission to make Throwback Plumbing’s page ✨spooky✨ for the next 31 days!

Consider this your warning. 😂👻

This month we’re talking:
💀 Plumbing horror stories
🕷️ Things we’ve pulled out of drains that should’ve stayed buried
👻 Mysterious noises coming from places they absolutely should NOT be coming from
🎃 Sewer lines that look like something out of a horror movie
🦇 And the kind of DIY plumbing that makes even seasoned plumbers afraid

Because after everything we’ve seen in this business…

Ghosts really aren’t that scary.

A backed-up sewer at 9 PM?

Now THAT is terrifying. 😂

Happy spooky season from your favorite neighborhood plumbers! 🎃🔧

What did you do at work today? 😅

Oh, you know…
Cut open a commercial bathroom floor.
Jackhammered through concrete.
Dug a trench through the building.
Found the failed sewer line.
Replaced what needed replacing.
And hauled out whatever prehistoric plumbing creature this is.

Just another glamorous day in plumbing.

Most people never see what’s underneath the floor — and judging by that last picture, sometimes that’s probably for the best.

The guys definitely earned their showers after this one. 😂

It’s officially starting to feel like fall around here. 🍂

This is your friendly reminder to go outside and disconnect those garden hoses before you forget about them until the first freeze.

Also take a quick look at your outdoor faucets for any drips, make sure exposed plumbing in the garage or crawl space is protected, and figure out where your main water shutoff is if you don’t already know.

Just a few little things that can save you from a much bigger headache when the weather gets colder.

And as always, if you find something you’d rather not mess with, give us a call. We’ve got you.
