🌳 Is your tree losing its bark?

Peeling or falling bark can be part of a tree’s natural growth, but it can also point to a more serious problem. Weather stress, pests, disease, physical damage, and internal decay can all affect a tree’s bark.

Take a closer look if you also notice exposed wood, cracks, holes, sawdust, mushrooms, dead branches, or thinning leaves. These signs may mean the tree needs professional attention.

Our latest blog explains what bark loss can mean, which trees naturally shed their bark, and when St. Louis homeowners should be concerned.

🌳 Big trees can create big problems when storms roll through.

Mature trees may look strong, but hidden decay, weakened roots, poor branch structure, or previous storm damage can make them more likely to fail under heavy rain and strong winds.

Warning signs can include:

āš ļø Dead or hanging branches
āš ļø Cracks in the trunk or major limbs
āš ļø Mushrooms or decay near the base
āš ļø Exposed or damaged roots
āš ļø A sudden or increasing lean

You cannot prevent every storm, but routine inspections and proactive tree care can reduce the risk of falling limbs, property damage, and emergency removals.

🌳 A tree can look healthy and still pose a hidden risk.

Weak branch attachments, internal decay, root damage, and structural problems are not always easy to see from the ground. A professional Tree Risk Assessment can help identify these concerns before a branch falls or an unstable tree causes damage.

During an assessment, a trained arborist evaluates the tree, its surroundings, and anything that could be affected if part of the tree fails. Based on the findings, they can recommend the right next step, whether that means pruning, continued monitoring, treatment, or removal.

Learn what a Tree Risk Assessment includes and why it can be an important part of protecting your property:

If you are concerned about a tree on your property, do not wait for the next storm to reveal the problem. Contact Hansen’s Tree Service to schedule a professional evaluation.

750+ FIVE-STAR REVIEWS. THAT’S A LOT OF HAPPY NEIGHBORS.

We are proud to be trusted by homeowners, custom home builders, and some of the largest builders in the St. Louis area.

We are also grateful for more than 750 five-star Google reviews from customers who trusted us with their trees, homes, and properties.

That kind of trust is not built through dramatic marketing claims, interpretive dance, or a man shouting beside a piece of heavy equipment.

It comes from doing good work, treating people fairly, and cleaning up when the job is finished.

MATT: THE MAD SCIENTIST OF MULCH

Matt is grinding it out every day. Literally.

As our master of tub grinding, he the first step in turning tree removals into refined, finished mulch that makes landscapes and curb appeal pop. He runs the big equipment with the skill of a seasoned operator and the focus of a mad scientist obsessed with the perfect mix, match and mulch.

Thank you, Matt, for keeping Hansen’s tree cycling operation mulch-nifigant and proving that one tree’s ending can become one very good looking flower bed.
Now that is Tree-Mendous!

A LITTLE PLANNING CAN SAVE A LOT OF TREES

Selective land clearing starts before the equipment ever arrives.

Which trees are healthy? Which ones could become a problem during construction? Where will equipment need to travel? Which trees are worth protecting?

These are not especially glamorous questions, but neither is watching a beautiful oak get damaged because nobody thought about where the concrete truck would drive.

Hansen’s combines land-clearing experience with urban forestry knowledge to help homeowners and builders make smarter decisions before construction begins.

BRIAN: THE MAN WHO KEEPS HANSEN’S ROLLING
šŸŽ¶ On the road again... šŸŽ¶

Thankfully, we never have to wait long. Master Mechanic Brian wields his grease monkey skills with the speed and stealth of a long tailed macaque swiping a snack from an unsuspecting tourist.

He is fast. He is resourceful. He usually has a mischievous grin stretched from ear to ear. Most importantly, he keeps our trucks, equipment and crews moving down the road.

Thank you, Brian, for being the kind of teammate everyone enjoys working with and the mechanic who keeps this whole operation rolling. You are truly Tree-Mendous!
