MYTH: “Corner cabinets are just wasted space… or they have to be a Lazy Susan.”

Not true. Not even close.

Corner cabinets can actually be some of the smartest storage in your whole kitchen — when they’re designed the right way.

For years, people have thought a corner cabinet only meant one thing:
a Lazy Susan.

And while a Lazy Susan can still be a good option in the right kitchen, it is definitely not the only option anymore.

Today, corner cabinetry can be designed in ways that make your kitchen work better, feel bigger, and store more of the things you actually use.

Why corner cabinets matter

Corners are valuable space.
If they’re ignored, they can become awkward, hard-to-reach dead zones.
If they’re designed well, they can become some of the most functional storage in the room.

Depending on your kitchen layout, corner space can be used for:

everyday kitchen storage
pots and pans
small appliances
serving pieces
pantry-style storage
specialty organization
even a sink layout in the right design
And no… it does NOT have to be a Lazy Susan

There are a lot more options than people realize.

At Lakeside, corner cabinet solutions can include:

✅ Rev-A-Shelf pull-out accessories
These give you easier access to items that would otherwise disappear into the back of a cabinet. There are some really smart options available that bring the storage out to you instead of making you crawl halfway inside the cabinet to find the crockpot lid.

Corner stack of drawers
Yes — drawers in a corner.
When designed correctly, these can create clean, efficient storage and a really custom look.

V-drawers
A great way to take advantage of corner space while keeping the look unique and functional.

Corner sink layouts
In the right kitchen, a corner sink can be a great solution for window placement, traffic flow, or making the rest of the layout work better.

Traditional corner cabinet options
Sometimes a more classic approach still makes the most sense — but the key is choosing it on purpose, not just by default.

The real key? Layout.

The best corner solution depends on the entire kitchen plan.

That means looking at things like:

How you move through the kitchen
Where the appliances are located
What you need to store
How often you use those items
Where drawers and doors will open
How the kitchen will function day to day
What's overall look you want

Sometimes the “best” corner cabinet is not the fanciest one.
It’s the one that makes the whole kitchen work better.

That’s where a Lakeside designer comes in

This is exactly why working with a professional designer matters.

At Lakeside Cabinets & Woodworking, our designers are there to help guide, support, and manage your cabinet project from beginning to end.

They help with:

cabinet layout options
storage solutions
style and function
design details
organization ideas
problem-solving awkward spaces
and keeping the whole project moving in the right direction

A good designer is not there to “sell you more cabinets.”
They are there to help you make smart decisions so your kitchen works beautifully when it’s all done.

Your superpower

Instead of asking:
“Do we just put a Lazy Susan in the corner?”

Ask:
“What is the best way to use this corner for how we actually live?”

That question can completely change the way your kitchen functions.

Because a corner cabinet should not be an afterthought.
It should be an opportunity.

LAKESIDE MYTH BUSTERS — #4

MYTH:

“The bigger the kitchen island, the better.”

Sure… if your goal is to train for a 5K every time you make dinner. 😂

A giant island can look amazing in a photo, but if you're constantly walking around it to get from the refrigerator to the sink, squeezing past someone at the dishwasher, or trying to pull out a chair without blocking the whole kitchen…

Bigger isn't always better.

What really matters is:

• How people move through the kitchen
• Where the appliances are located
• How much seating you actually need
• Whether doors and drawers can open comfortably
• How the kitchen works when 2, 3, or 6 people are in it at the same time

YOUR SUPERPOWER:

Instead of asking:

“How big of an island can we fit?”

Ask:

“What size island will make this kitchen work the best for the way we live?”

That's the better question.

The best island isn't the biggest one.

It's the one you don't have to take a lap around to get the butter. 😄

*********Some Before and After with a small tight space**********

MYTH:

“If the cabinet is made from plywood, it must be high quality.”

Not necessarily.

Plywood can be a great cabinet material — but the word “plywood” alone does not tell you how well a cabinet is built.

Two cabinet companies can both say they use plywood and still be offering very different products.

What really matters?

✔ Material thickness
✔ How the cabinet is assembled
✔ Joinery and construction methods
✔ Drawer and hinge quality
✔ Interior materials
✔ Finish quality
✔ How the cabinet is engineered for long-term use

Instead of asking:

“Are your cabinets plywood?”

Ask:

“How are your cabinets actually constructed?”

That one question can tell you a whole lot more about what you're really buying.

At Lakeside, we believe a smarter customer makes better decisions — and better decisions lead to kitchens that perform as good as they look.
