Ted Williams was filmed at Fenway 1941 Number 9 by my grandfather in this reel — I was there 70 years later filming on an iPhone. Very cool!😎

I grew up in Red Sox country,

Every home game at Fenway, middle of the eighth, the whole park sings this one. Three thousand miles away at HopMonk in Novato, it turns out it works exactly the same — I got about four bars in and the room took it away from us.

That's the thing about this song. It doesn't belong to whoever's holding the microphone.

Rojo and I at the HopMonk in Novato — "The 59th Street Bridge Song."

He plays electric, and then he picks up the harmonica, and the whole thing changes. We've been finding harmonies together before and I think we're onto something.

Fifty-eight years old, that song. Simon wrote it about slowing down and looking around. Feels about right for a Tuesday night in Novato.

Number 9, at the plate. My grandfather shot this from his seat — no press pass, no crew, just a man who brought a movie camera to a ball game because he thought it was worth recording, the same way he'd painted a title card by hand for the family's first reel. He was right. It sat in a box for seventy years, and here's Ted Williams, still swinging. Film in the first comment 👇

So many of you have been following me for over a decade — and this summer, something new happened. Eight weeks ago I started opening the archive one day at a time: a concert filmed from the crowd in 1973, a song recorded in my basement studio, a night at an open mic. Tens of thousands of people found their way in, and a lot of them stayed.

"Comes a Time" was the first song I ever learned to play on guitar — so seeing Neil in Napa in 2023 was a great way to remember that one man, one guitar, one song, and how it ripples.

So many of you have been with me long enough to remember when songs like this were new. I've seen Neil many times, but this show felt like a fond evening with his best friends: Old Black, the Les Paul he got from Jim Messina back in '69 and has played ever since. The pipe organ from MTV Unplugged, making a scene out of an acoustic set. And a piano that plays along on its own while he picks up a guitar. He seemed to have no set list at all — he just welcomed any song from that massive catalog that wanted to make an appearance.
