Some late season beauty. I’ve got a couple tomato plants going strong. A couple cosmo plants that are so healthy.

I’m racing time with a couple of cantaloupe plants. On/around August 14 I planted these seeds. The variety is called Minnesota Midget. They take 60-70 days to maturity. They produce 4 inch melons on a 36 inch vine.

I’m in Massachusetts. Bristol County

I have been struggling to grow anything but tomatoes this year. I can’t keep the critters away. I’ve planted cucumbers and cantaloupe twice. The critters have gotten it both times.

It mid August and I JUST moved planted some of these Minnesota Midgets. 60-70 days to maturity…..I’m cutting it close.

They grow to be 4 inch melons on 36 inch plants.

I’m excited and looking forward to tiny melons

Instead of in the ground I’m growing them in these containers in my front garden. There has always been less critter action in this area of my garden.

I had tried and tried to grow sunflowers in the past. One thing I learned is that sunflowers have a long tap root that won’t do well in rocky soil.

By chance (I dumped out a bunch of dirt from my seed starter tray that didn’t germinate) this one grew here.

This bed is mostly store bought soil with sand beneath….next year there will be an entire row and maybe more than one kind.

My height is just about 6’
