Here is a great article on the work that ACCA is doing regarding GFCI's now being required on HVAC equipment but it also highlights the issues modern HVAC equipment has with "dirty" power. Power issues including under voltage, over voltage, flickering, brown outs, etc. all cause issues, or confusion if you will, within the electronics of the equipment which in turn causes nuisance lockouts, tripping breakers, and/or burning up of the control boards.
