You walk on it every single day… but have you ever wondered what’s actually inside a vinyl plank?

HOW IS IT MADE? Vinyl Plank Flooring

Luxury vinyl plank may look like real hardwood, but there’s a lot more going on underneath the surface.

➡The Core – Vinyl compounds, limestone and other materials are combined to create a strong, stable base.

➡The Design Layer – A highly detailed image of real wood or stone is printed onto the plank. This is what gives vinyl flooring its realistic appearance.

➡The Wear Layer – A clear protective layer is added over the design to help defend against scratches, stains and everyday wear.

➡The Protective Finish – Many planks receive an additional UV-cured coating for even more durability.

➡Click-Lock Edges – The finished planks are cut and milled so they can lock together during installation.

➡Attached Padding – Some vinyl plank flooring also includes a built-in underlayment for added comfort and sound reduction.

So while it may look like a simple piece of flooring, there’s actually quite a bit of engineering packed into every plank.

CABLE RAILING + OPEN TREADS TOO MODERN FOR YOU? 👀

Would you put this staircase in your home?

This staircase combines two modern design features that completely change the look and feel of the space:

A cable railing system with black metal posts and warm wood handrails keeps the views open and allows natural light to flow through the staircase.

Open treads take it one step further, eliminating the traditional closed-in look and giving the entire staircase a lighter, more floating appearance.

HOW IT’S BUILT: CULTURED STONE

It may look like natural stone, but have you ever wondered how cultured stone is actually made?

Cultured stone also called manufactured stone veneer is designed to recreate the color, texture, and character of natural stone without using full pieces of quarried stone.

Here’s how it’s built:

1️⃣ The molds are created
Manufacturers make molds using real natural stones so the finished pieces capture realistic shapes, textures, cracks, and details.

2️⃣ The mixture is made
A lightweight concrete mixture typically made from cement, aggregates, and water forms the body of the stone.

3️⃣ Color is added
Iron oxide pigments are added to create different stone colors. Additional pigments can also be applied to the molds to give each piece more natural-looking variation.

4️⃣ The molds are filled
The concrete mixture is poured into the molds and compacted so it captures all of those small surface details.

5️⃣ The stone cures
The pieces are allowed to harden and cure before being removed from their molds.

6️⃣ Then it’s ready for installation
The finished veneer can be installed on properly prepared wall assemblies using mortar or other manufacturer-approved systems.

The result? The appearance of natural stone in a thinner, lighter manufactured product.

You’ll see cultured stone used on everything from home exteriors and foundations to fireplaces, columns, entryways, and outdoor living spaces.

What If Your FLOOR Heated Your Home?

That’s exactly what radiant floor heating does.

Instead of relying solely on warm air blowing through vents, a hydronic radiant system circulates heated water through PEX tubing installed beneath the finished floor, allowing heat to radiate upward throughout the room.

Why do homeowners love it?

Warm floors under your feet
More even heat throughout the room
No forced air blowing around the space
Individual zones can provide greater temperature control
Quiet, comfortable heating

The second photo shows what this system looks like before the finished flooring goes down. Once everything is covered, you’d never know all of that tubing was underneath your feet you just feel the warmth.
