⚠️ NKC Storm Damage Check ⚠️

This week’s hail — nickel to baseball-sized in parts of the Northland, with some reports near 4 inches — did more damage than most people realize. A dented gutter or a few missing granules can mean a compromised roof, even if nothing looks wrong from the ground.

If you were in the storm’s path, take a walk around your property when it’s safe. Look for:
• Dented gutters/downspouts
• Granules piling up at the base of downspouts
• Cracked or knocked-loose siding
• Bruised or dinged shingles

Not every roof in the Northland was damaged in this week’s storm.

After inspecting several homes today, I wanted to share something important with our community.

Many homes did experience hail damage, but some roofs are still in perfectly good condition. In the video I’m sharing, the home has a GAF Timberline HDZ impact-resistant shingle, and it handled the storm very well.

Before filing an insurance claim, it’s always a good idea to have a professional inspection and even seek a second opinion if something doesn’t feel right.

Storms tend to bring a lot of out-of-town contractors into Kansas City. While some may do good work, many are here today and gone tomorrow.

Whether you choose Element Enterprises or another company, I strongly encourage homeowners to work with a local contractor who is established in the Kansas City metro and will still be here years from now to stand behind their work.

We’re receiving reports of damaging hail across the metro area, with some areas seeing hail up to 3 inches in diameter. Storms like this can cause serious damage to roofs, siding, gutters, and windows — even if it’s not immediately visible from the ground.

If your area experienced hail or high winds tonight, it’s a good idea to safely check your property once the storm has passed.

Common signs of hail damage include:

• Granules collecting at the bottom of downspouts
• Damaged siding or window screens
• Shingle bruising or impact marks
