Never a boring day in residential plumbing. This home has an outdoor shower that was not winterize. Our plumber found the cartridge for the valve in pieces from the freeze and burst. He replace the cartridge to find the valve still leaking somewhere in the wall. He was able to locate the backside of the valve to try and open the wall from the inside seeing the siding on the home would require a lot of work, then he found the boiler mounted to the interior side of the shower valve. He is not able to remove the boiler alone so we made and appointment to go back with more help and remove the boiler to locate and repair the leak. Once the boiler was removed from the wall and the plywood wall was opened we found the plumbing was sealed to the cold side of the wall cavity with spray foam. This we have unfortunately seen a lot. The foam works great to keep the house more efficient however in this case it worked the opposite way and a burst pipe was found on the riser to the shower head. We removed some spray foam, made repairs and improvements and put everything back together. Hopefully the homeowner will never have to deal with this again.

Spoke to Jarrett last week about replacing sink faucet cartridges and installing a new shower head. Appointment was for today. Garret and Maya were on time.... polite professional, clean, and done! Don't be fooled because Garrett looks like a kid. But I'm in my 70s and if he were 50 years old he would look like a kid. 😃. Very happy with the service.

This week we were able to assist Rail Barge Truck Services in removing a boiler (100HP) and installing a 200HP boiler. The old boiler was removed with the building on Monday a new concrete pad was poured on Wednesday and the new building and boiler were craned in this morning. We connected gas and water by noon. Lots of electrical but this boiler will be running in less than 24 hours.

We took some time off for team building today—a little boating and fishing.
We rafted up in the middle of Long Island Sound on a top-10 beautiful day to enjoy lunch together before returning to a friendly fishing competition between boats. The fishing was slow, but we still managed to catch quite a few species: blackfish, fluke, sea robins, porgies, and sand sharks. Lots of sand sharks.
Overall, it was a great day for everyone. Team building is an easy thing to put off and replace with another day of work, especially when the phones are busy with service requests, but it’s worth it. Taking a break from the daily grind helps boost the entire team’s morale, motivation, and sense of camaraderie.
We’re fortunate to have such a great group of people working together every day.

Another Habitat for Humanity house roughed in and another getting framed up soon. I think at this point we are above 75 homes for Habitat. One day I will count but we will save that for another day. We do new construction to a simple toilet repair.

When buying a home you should check the sale history to see if it might be a flip house. This week we received a call to price out a boiler replacement. 10 minutes into the house and we had the boiler started and it continues to operate properly. In the process of inspecting the heating system the homeowner stated they had 3 zones of heat. This was not the case at the boiler so we checked the thermostats. First floor was working as it should for both heat and a/c. Third floor was air conditioning only, no control of the heat as the homeowners were told and the second floor? Turns out it was just for display! The homeowner just laughed realizing they had been adjusting it for the past year in a half for no reason. Maybe a home inspection could have found this but likely not. Home flippers, some not all, will cut corners to in an effort to increase the sale price.

Yesterday we installed an outdoor shower for a beautiful home. There will be a white vinyl enclosure and patio stones with a drain in the next few days. For this project we used VIEGA stainless steel propress so the pipes match the chrome valve. Stainless pipe support’s will be installed once we receive them as they were special order.

We swapped out an old electric company stone lined electric water heater for a LG 58 gallon heat pump water heater with a mixing valve to keep the water a consistent temperature that is safe for families. This family took advantage of the $900 rebate. A nice saving seeing last year the rebate was $750.
