Your options in a claim situation are:

Find somebody experienced in the field and trust them. The carriers are getting harder and harder to deal with. You need somebody on your side because, despite nice ads and slogans, most carriers are NOT on your side. They are skilled manipulators who negotiate the claim to THEIR benefit, not yours.

Mostly good info here. The only part that is wrong is to ask your insurance company or agent to inspect. If you initiate a claim, most carriers do not allow you to withdraw the claim so you will have a claim on your record.
