Demo week is the part nobody photographs for the brochure.

Carpet out. Drop ceiling down. Old shelving pulled off the wall. What matters at this stage is not speed, it is containment and sequence. Protect the rest of the house, get debris out daily, and expose what we need to see before framing starts.

This is also when surprises show up, if there are any. Better now than after the drywall is hung. We document what we find, tell you the same day, and price it in writing before anyone moves forward.

NO SURPRISES at the end. That is the whole point of working this way.

Where do the shower controls go?

It sounds like a small decision. It is not. You want to reach the valve without standing under cold water, and you want the handheld low enough to be useful for cleaning and for anyone who needs to sit down.

On this project that meant three control positions, a ceiling-mounted rain head, and a curved bench built into the wall.

We work these placements out during rough-in, because once the tile is set the answer is permanent.

If you are planning a bathroom in Southeastern Massachusetts and want to think through function before finishes, reach out to Straightline Design Build, LLC. We are glad to walk you through it.

Same staircase. Different house, honestly.

The original had light wood rails, white balusters, and a small closet that closed the whole stairwell in. Now it is dark treads, white newel post and top rail, and a horizontal black metal rail that lets light move through.

The structure stayed exactly where it was. Everything you touch and everything you look at changed.

Frameless glass looks simple. Fitting it is not.

The walls have to be plumb. The curb has to be level. The panels get measured after the tile is set, never before. Then the seals and the door swing get checked so water stays where it belongs.

That is why the glass goes in near the end. It only works if everything underneath it was built square. 📐

The difference between tile work that fails early and tile work that lasts a decade comes down to what happens before the first tile goes on the wall.

Substrate preparation. Waterproofing at the seams and transitions. Proper slope to the drain. Consistent joint spacing throughout. These details aren't visible in the finished photo, but they're what keeps the grout clean and the walls dry over time.

We don't cut corners on the work behind the walls because we know what happens when that work isn't done right. We've seen it in spaces we've been called in to repair.

Planning a bathroom remodel and want to understand what a properly built shower actually involves? We're glad to walk you through it. It makes for a better project conversation before the work begins.

Notice the shower niche detail here?

The tile lines stay clean, the recess is easy to maintain, and the layout helps protect the wall assembly from daily moisture. Straightline Design Build, LLC plans these details carefully because small choices make a big difference in long-term durability. ✅

What does the end of a project actually look like?

After the final tile is set and the last coat of paint dries, we do a full walkthrough with the homeowner. Not a tour, a checklist. We go through everything together so the homeowner knows exactly what was done, how it works, and what to expect long-term.

If something isn't right, we note it and address it before we consider the job complete. That's the punch list process, and it's a standard part of every project we deliver.

We've been doing this work in South Eastern Massachusetts since 2012. A strong reputation across our service area isn't built on the finished photos. It's built on what happens after the crew packs up.

Basements deserve thoughtful upgrades, too.

Ever wonder what’s behind a seamless remodel? It starts with careful demo and a plan for every detail. On this project, we’re removing old cabinets, parquet flooring, carpet, and drop ceiling to prepare for a custom wet bar, new flooring, and a clean plastered ceiling.

Those blue lines are the project before the project.

Before anything came out of this room, the new layout was drawn right on top of the old one. Where the wall opens up. Where the island lands. How the kitchen and the living space connect once the divider is gone. Working that out on the existing room is what keeps the big decisions off the jobsite later.

Then it comes down to framing, and you find out whether the plan holds. Ceiling open, walls stripped, everything measurable.

The finished kitchen is the easy part to look at. The island, the pendants, the flooring. All of it was settled while the furniture was still sitting in the old room.

That is the part of design-build that matters day to day at Straightline Design Build, LLC. One team draws it, the same team builds it, and the finished room matches the plan.

If you were opening up a space like this, what would you want figured out first?
