Tidewater Woodworkers Guild

Tidewater Woodworkers Guild The TWWWG is dedicated to advancing the understanding of the tools equipment used in fine woodworking

Tidewater Woodworkers got started in 1980, as an outgrowth of the several woodworkers that met for the free seminars held at the (then) Shopsmith Store along Northampton Boulevard, Norfolk. Several homes later, we have nearly 100 members who meet at Woodcraft in the Janaf Shopping Center.

Members brought in many different jigs they built to help their lives easier in their workshops. It is always wonderful to see what people come up.This is one of the many assets of being a member of the Tidewater Woodworkers Guild. Our dues we pay yearly pays for itself in so many ways.

Bench Talk, Monday, April 13th, 6:30 pm, Norfolk Woodcraft

We will have a guest making a short presentation this Monday at our meeting.

Mike Baldwin — Norfolk local, hobbyist woodworker, and software engineer.

He has developed a desktop app that allows users to design furniture and cabinetry projects in 3D and automatically generate clean cut lists—fully offline, with no subscriptions.

He's looking for feedback from experienced builders and will be giving a short informal demo at the meeting. Complimentary lifetime licenses may be available for those who’d like to evaluate it and provide input.

I think that's it for now, see you Monday,

Members helped the Cub Scouts again last night with their Pinewood Derby cars. What a wonderful time all had. Personally speaking from experience I think the members have more fun helping these Scouts than the Scouts. What do you think?

The Tidewater Woodworkers Guild held their January meeting at Woodcraft in the Janaf Shopping Center on January 26, 2026. A huge thanks to all who came out and participated in upholding our tradition of focusing on workshop safety. Many thanks goes to our new Vice President and Program Chair, Eric Stockinger. We were honored to have Dr. Lexie Shaw, MD FACS trauma surgeon for the Level 1 Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Dr Shaw gave a wonderful talk about shop safety. While we always strive to reinforce safe woodworking practices, accidents still happen every year, even to the most experienced crafter. Dr. Shaw provides insight into commonly seen shop injuries, when to identify the types of injuries to seek immediate help for, and provides stark awareness that some injuries are best handled at facilities with higher preparedness, known as Level 1 Trauma Centers.
