Meet Debbie Baker, an Office Administrator supporting both Accounting and Project Management at Provost Construction!
For more than five years, Debbie has helped keep many moving parts organized—from job scheduling and manpower reports to accounts payable, billing, collections and project closeouts. Working across several departments allows her to contribute throughout the company, and she especially enjoys supporting the accounting team.
Her best piece of career advice is simple and effective: “If you don’t know the answer, find it.”
Outside of work, Debbie loves spending time with her family—and something her coworkers may not know is that she plays fantasy football!

Flashback Friday to this Crave Hot Dogs & BBQ build-out!
We transformed a 2,915-square-foot white-box space into a complete restaurant and entertainment destination—featuring custom axe-throwing lanes and one of the first multi-wall self-serve b**r systems our team built.
Behind the finished space was plenty of problem-solving, including a unique pumped waste plumbing system that had to travel overhead and connect to the city sewer.

Originally built in 1906, The Walker Place went from an abandoned three-story warehouse to 32 apartments and three commercial restaurant spaces in downtown Newport News.

Inside, modern finishes meet the details that make this building special: original wood floors, exposed brick, wood beams and wooden pillars. Each apartment has its own character, with pieces of the building’s industrial past woven into the spaces people now call home.

Located on 23rd Street in the Walker-Wilkins-Bloxom Historic Warehouse —and right next to our office—this project is a meaningful part of Provost Construction’s connection to the Yard District.

Swipe through the transformation. Which historic detail catches your eye?

October is Careers in Construction Month, and we're putting a spotlight on the people behind Provost's projects!

There are many paths into this industry and many roles that bring a project across the finish line. This month, we'll take a closer look at the work of some of our team members and the paths that brought them here.

Meet Jessica, Senior Project Coordinator on Provost Construction’s Project Management team!
For nearly four years, Jessica has worked closely with our Project Managers, Accounting team and field superintendents. Her responsibilities span the full project lifecycle—from mobilization, travel arrangements and permitting to client billing, contracts, change orders and closeout.
One accomplishment she is especially proud of is recently running her own SNIPES project from start to finish. For Jessica, the best part of the job is seeing the finished result and knowing she helped turn an idea into something real.
Her best career advice: “Pick your battles and leave your emotions at home.”
Outside of work, Jessica loves spending time with her family, her two nieces and her three Rottweilers. She is also the proud owner of a 1968 Plymouth Fury III named Norma Jean!

Provost Construction is wrapping up the 85,902-square-foot build-out of Rural King’s Greensboro store, with the site turned over on September 24.
The work ranged from site improvements and accessible entrances to new spaces for the mechanic shop, Gun Barn, warehouse, offices and restrooms. Our team also installed a new storefront, replaced seven rooftop units, and completed extensive electrical and fire-protection upgrades.
A standout accomplishment: the propane refilling station was operational for the soft opening. These stations often go live months after a store opens because of state permitting. Working with the Rural King and Ferrell Gas teams, we had this one ready on opening day!

Meet Ken Richards, Provost’s Asset and Accountability Manager!

Ken joined Provost six years ago as a Project Manager before transitioning into his current role about a year and a half ago. Today, he works across HR, Accounting, and Construction to oversee the company’s equipment and vehicle fleet, strengthen accountability, and help our teams operate as efficiently as possible.

One accomplishment he’s especially proud of is transforming Provost’s warehouse into a clean, organized, climate-controlled space where employees can work on projects during inclement weather and the summer heat.

Ken’s favorite part of his role is connecting with employees across the company—from the office to the field—and helping everyone work together to make processes easier, more efficient, and more engaging.

His guiding piece of career advice?

“If you aren’t willing to do it yourself, don’t make someone else do it.”

Outside of work, Ken is passionate about helping his son succeed—and here’s something you may not know: he can deadlift 435 pounds!

Provost Construction has reached a major milestone on this 4,300-square-foot tenant build-out for Conviva Senior Primary Care in Orange City, Florida: the project has officially received its Certificate of Occupancy.

Since beginning work in May 2026, our team has transformed an existing commercial shell into a bright, functional clinic with welcoming patient areas, clinical spaces, custom cabinetry, staff areas, nurses’ station and a central reception desk.

The project also gave our team the opportunity to learn a new client’s standards, collaborate with new design partners and build relationships with a new network of local trade partners—experience that we’ll carry forward into future projects.

Thank you to Matt Murray with Cushman Wakefield and the Conviva Care Centers team for their partnership throughout this build-out.
