Most mushrooms popping up in your lawn this season are harmless decomposers breaking down buried organic matter and enriching your soil, though it’s smart to clear them away from curious kids and pets.

However, if you spot clusters at the base of a tree or on its roots, call an ISA Certified Arborist, since fungi like honey fungus can quietly rot roots and make trees unstable.

If your soil is this difficult to break into, your trees and grass aren't getting the air they need.

Fort Worth, TX based, Arborist, Ryan Ramirez explains the importance of aeration for compacted soil this fall as your landscape prepares for winter.

Six years ago, one of our Bedford, NY arborists, Redmond Tsao, put a watermelon-looking pumpkin on his desk. It sat there for 5 years never rotting, just quietly preserving itself. When it finally fell and broke, Redmond saved the seeds "just in case," forgot them in a drawer for a year, then planted them this spring in a forgotten dead spot behind the office. He was hoping for two or three pumpkins, instead there are over twenty growing this fall.

Meet Bedford's newest fall attraction, the SavATree Pumpkin Patch.

"For Every Tree" is our commitment to the future of our forests. Created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, the program supports planting one tree in areas impacted by deforestation and natural disasters for every tree we remove.

As a preservation-first company, we recommend care plans focused on the health and longevity of your trees. But sometimes removal is the only responsible option to protect people, property, and the long-term health of the landscape. When that happens, we plant a tree through one of the Foundation's U.S. reforestation projects, focusing on the forest ecosystems in greatest need of restoration.

Meet the American Smoketree (Cotinus obovatus), a native U.S. tree known for its hazy, pink-to-purple plumes that bloom in early summer and look like puffs of smoke.

As the colder weather sets in, its leaves turn brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple, making it one of the best native trees for fall color. It's hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and a great fit for smaller yards. While not usually growing quite so large in the Dallas area due to the summer heat stress and heavy blackland clay, this Smoketree captured by Board Certified Master Arborist, Thomas Strawn, could possibly be one of the biggest in the area.

Spotted Lanternflies are now in 145+ Massachusetts communities, and September is egg-laying season.

What you can do now:
🦶Squash adults on sight
🥚Scrape and destroy egg masses (gray, mud-like smears on bark, fences, and outdoor furniture)
🚗Check your car and gear before leaving infested areas
🔍Report new sightings at mass.gov/spotted-lanternfly
☎️Call a licensed arborist for heavy infestations: (800) 341-8733

Every egg mass destroyed this fall means fewer lanternflies next spring. Thanks to our Medfield based arborist, Chuck Pease for sharing these great photos!

The Eutaw Springs Witness Tree has stood since the Revolutionary War — 300 years, choked in recent decades by iron chains and steel cables buried inside its trunk.

Our master arborists scaled the canopy, carefully removed the hardware, and restored vital circulation to this living landmark. We're proud to be leading this restoration in partnership with the American Battlefield Trust, South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust, and South Carolina 250.

Last week 18 members of our Front Range team joined Saluting Branches at Fort Logan and Evergreen National Cemeteries in Colorado to take part in their 12th annual Day of Service. This yearly volunteer event brings arborists together to care for the cemeteries where America's veterans rest.

The volunteers spent the day giving back to the grounds by planting new trees, pruning, treating trees to protect them from pests, removing dead trees, and mulching new plantings to help them thrive for years to come.

We're honored to support Saluting Branches in its mission to keep our veterans' final resting places safe, beautiful spaces for all who visit.
