Job Overview
The Project Manager provides full financial and operational leadership for complex utility and heavy civil construction projects. This role owns the complete project lifecycle — from pre-construction handoff through final closeout — while protecting margins, managing risk, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, field leadership, subcontractors, and internal teams.
This position is a true ownership role, requiring a balance of technical knowledge, financial discipline, and people-focused leadership. The Project Manager is accountable for project outcomes, team coordination, and ex*****on excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Project Initiation & Planning
Lead project handoff from estimating to operations, ensuring full understanding of scope, contract terms, schedule, and budget
Develop project ex*****on plans, schedules, and cost controls aligned with contract requirements
Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies
Financial Management
Own project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and margin protection
Review job cost reports and address variances proactively
Approve subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices in alignment with progress and contract terms
Schedule & Production Control
Develop and manage project schedules, coordinating closely with Superintendents and field leadership
Monitor progress against milestones and adjust plans to maintain productivity and deadlines
Ensure accurate reporting of project status to leadership
Team Leadership & Coordination
Serve as the primary point of coordination between field teams, subcontractors, clients, and internal departments
Lead project meetings and maintain clear, consistent communication
Support and mentor field leadership while reinforcing accountability and performance expectations
Client & Stakeholder Management
Maintain strong, professional relationships with owners, inspectors, engineers, and public agencies
Manage change orders, RFIs, and contract correspondence
Represent GS Construction with integrity and professionalism at all times
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Reinforce GS Construction’s safety standards and ensure compliance with all company, client, and regulatory requirements
Promote quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications
Address issues promptly to protect the company, the client, and the project team
Project Closeout
Oversee project closeout activities including final billing, documentation, and turnover
Ensure all contractual obligations are met and lessons learned are captured
Qualifications
Experience managing utility and/or heavy civil construction projects
Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, and contract administration
Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with construction management and project tracking systems
