Been testing out Mirimichi Green Nutri-Kelp on a few stressed plants around my own landscape — especially these Drift Roses and our Coral Bark Japanese Maple after some pretty serious frost damage earlier this year.

So far, I’ve been really happy with the response. The roses have pushed a lot of fresh growth and blooms, and the maple is finally showing some healthy new growth after a rough start to the season.

Always fun testing products on my own property before deciding where they might fit into our plant-care program.

Fall is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about your lawn! 🌱

If your grass is looking thin, struggling in certain areas, or just took a beating from the summer heat, core aeration & overseeding can make a huge difference.

Fall is the ideal time to aerate and overseed here in Northern Virginia, and we’re now getting our fall schedule together.

The finishing touch on a beautiful new build. 🌿

For this install, we focused on keeping the beds clean, simple, and balanced — fresh mulch, a mix of shrubs and flowering plants, and enough spacing so everything can grow in without feeling over crowded. A nice finishing touch to help the home feel a little more complete.

A little landscape lighting goes a long way. ✨

This front entrance looks beautiful during the day, but the lighting is what really brings it to life at night — highlighting the columns, walkway, plantings, and architecture without overpowering the home.

Outdoor lighting adds curb appeal, safety, and a finished look that makes your home stand out after sunset.

Heat wave plant care tip: don’t water by the calendar — check the soil.

During stretches of extreme heat, there is no perfect rule for how much or how often to water. It depends on your soil, how much rain you’ve had, the type of plants you have, how established they are, and how much sun that area gets.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Check the soil a few inches down before watering. The surface can look dry even when there is still moisture below.

• Water deeply and slowly. A quick splash on top usually does not reach the root zone.

• Early morning is best when possible, so plants have moisture available before the hottest part of the day.

• If you need to water at night, water at the base of the plant and try to keep the leaves dry. Drip irrigation, soaker hoses, or a watering wand aimed at the soil are better than spraying over the top.

• Avoid pushing stressed plants with heavy fertilizer during extreme heat. Wait until the weather settles unless there is a specific issue you’re correcting.

• Mulch helps protect the roots, hold moisture, and regulate soil temperature. Just avoid piling mulch against stems or trunks.

New plantings, containers, hydrangeas, and full-sun areas usually need the most attention during a heat wave. The best thing you can do is inspect the soil, watch the plant, and adjust as needed.

This side yard needed structure, definition, and a cleaner finished look.

We built a retaining wall to help manage the grade, create a more defined planting area, and tie the landscape into the home and walkway. Once the wall was in, we finished the space with fresh mulch and new plantings to soften the foundation and add some color.

Not every project has to be massive to make a noticeable difference. Sometimes the right wall, clean bed lines, and thoughtful planting layout can completely change how an area feels.

Have a slope or awkward side yard that needs to be cleaned up? Reach out to start planning a retaining wall or landscape installation.

A closer look at the lighting details from this Nokesville project.

Good landscape lighting is not just about making things brighter. It is about creating depth, guiding movement, highlighting the right features, and making the property feel warm and inviting after dark.

For this project, we used a mix of path lighting, uplighting, and accent lighting to highlight the home, trees, driveway, walkways, and outdoor living areas without overpowering the space.

Small details make a big difference at night.

Front entrances matter.

This Old Town Warrenton project was phase 2 for a client we had already worked with, and the goal was to replace the old concrete walkway and steps with something that felt more intentional and better matched the home.

We installed natural limestone steps, a bluestone walkway, and in-lite lighting to add texture, improve the approach to the front door, and make the entrance feel welcoming during the day and after dark.

Good hardscape work should feel like it belongs with the home — not like it was added as an afterthought.
