How important is pool chemistry when you close your pool? Very very important. Your pool will be resting for 7 months!
Low alkalinity will continue to lower throughout the winter from snow and rain getting through the cover. It can and will cause liner wrinkling. Low Calcium is another factor. If the calcium level is too low the water will seek calcium and cause more liner and surface issues on the pool. Phosphates? That is what algae feeds on so lower or diminish the level before closing. You need the pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness in good balance. Then super chlorinate and add algaecide and a floater with tablets. If your pool is Bromine bring your water to us and we will test it and see exactly what it needs for winter. Why pools should have safety covers: See photo
