Out with the old 40-gallon and in with a new 50-gallon A.O. Smith electric water heater for one of our customers this week. We bumped them up a size and found a way to save them money on the extra capacity, so they get more hot water without paying a lot more for it.

We replaced the expansion tank too. As water heats up it expands, and the expansion tank gives it somewhere to go. That takes pressure off your water heater, valves, and pipes. If your tank is as old as your heater, it's smart to swap it at the same time.

Running out of hot water before everyone's done showering? Give us a call and we'll help you figure out the right size for your home.

Blessed to serve our community.

Back to that Wilmore house from Friday's post. Once the new water service was in, the old galvanized pipe inside the house had to go too. Galvanized builds up rust and scale on the inside the same way, and a new line coming into the house can only do so much if it's feeding old pipe that's choked down.

So we repiped the house with PEX. PEX won't rust or build up scale like galvanized, and since it's flexible it takes fewer fittings, which means fewer spots for a leak down the road.

If you're in an older home with galvanized water lines and you're dealing with low pressure or rusty water, a repipe can make a real difference. We'll come take a look and give you options.

Take a look inside this old water line we pulled out in Wilmore this week. This is the service line, the pipe that brings water from the meter into the house. It was galvanized, too small for the home, and so clogged with corrosion and hard water buildup that there wasn't much room left for water to get through.

That kind of buildup is what causes weak pressure at the faucets and a shower that drops off when someone flushes. We replaced it with a new, properly sized line so this family has the water flow they should've had all along.

If your water pressure has slowly gotten worse over the years, especially in an older home, your service line could be the reason. We'll come take a look and give you options.

Working in Lexington this week on a kitchen drain that's been giving this homeowner trouble. The old drain runs through galvanized pipe under the slab, and galvanized rusts and builds up on the inside over the years until water just can't get through like it should.

Instead of tearing up the floor to chase that old line, we rerouted the kitchen drain with new PVC and ran it along the garage wall, hung and supported the right way. The old galvanized under the slab gets bypassed completely..

If you've got an older home with slow drains that keep coming back no matter how many times you snake them, old galvanized could be the reason. We'll come take a look and give you options.

A few folks asked after Tuesday's sump pump post: once the pump kicks on, where does all that water go?

On this job we buried the discharge line through the front yard and ended it at a pop-up drain out by the sidewalk. When the pump runs, the water pushes the green lid up and spills out on the surface, well away from the house. When it's done, the lid drops back down flush with the ground so you can mow right over it.

No hose snaking across the yard and no water dumping right back against the foundation. Just a clean, out-of-sight fix that keeps your basement dry.

Nobody wants to walk downstairs into a flooded basement. This homeowner had water coming in at the bottom of their outside stairwell every time it rained hard, so we fixed it for good.

We installed a sump pit and pump right where the water collects, then ran the discharge line up and out through the yard so that water gets carried well away from the house instead of finding its way back in. Yard's put back with straw and ready to grow in.

Every house is a little different, and a sump pump isn't always the answer. Battery backup pumps, floor drains, and rerouting downspouts and drain lines are all solutions we offer to keep you dry. If water keeps showing up where it shouldn't, we'll come take a look and figure out the right fix for your home.

Blessed to serve our community and keep folks dry heading into the fall rain.

Tankless water heater install. Endless hot water, a lot more closet space, and it only runs when you're using hot water.

It's not right for every home — it depends on your gas line, how much hot water you use, and where the heater sits. We'll give you an honest answer on whether it makes sense for you.

The part you see is only half the job.

A clean tile shower like this only stays nice because of what's behind the wall — new copper, new drains, proper venting, all kept tight in the framing for a clean finish.

Remodeling a bathroom or basement this fall? We work with homeowners and contractors all over Jessamine and Fayette County.

Sometimes the problem isn't inside the house — it's under the yard.

New water service line from the meter to the house. We used a mini excavator to keep the trench narrow and the mess to a minimum — new pipe in, yard put back together.

If your water bill jumped or you've got a soggy spot in the yard that never dries out, that's a sign. Give us a call before it gets worse.

Good Help Plumbing is looking for good help from good people.

We're hiring a licensed Kentucky journeyman plumber. We started in January with one truck, and thanks to this community we're putting a second one on the road. We want somebody who takes pride in clean, correct work, shows up when they say they will, and treats a customer's home like their own.

What you get: $20-$35/hr depending on experience, with commission incentives possible. A take-home truck and gas card. A small, fast-growing team where your name means something, and steady variety - service calls, water heaters, water and sewer lines, and new construction across Nicholasville and Lexington. The owner is a master plumber who's still in the field with you every day.

We background check and drug screen. Valid driver's license required.

If that sounds like you or somebody you know, tag them or share this post. Call or text Jared at (859) 671-9213 or email [email protected].
