As temperatures dip across Fairfield County, here are three tasks worth knocking out before the ground freezes:

1️⃣ DISCONNECT & STORE GARDEN HOSES
Water trapped in a connected hose can crack outdoor spigots and even interior pipes during a hard freeze. Disconnect, drain, and store them inside.

2️⃣ PROTECT NEWLY PLANTED BROADLEAF EVERGREENS
Rhododendrons, hollies, and laurels planted this year aren’t fully established yet, so they’re vulnerable to winter wind burn. An anti-transpirant spray now helps seal in moisture.

3️⃣ CLEAR HEAVY, MATTED LEAVES
A light leaf mulch is fine in woodland beds. Thick, wet layers on lawns and perennial crowns invite rot, snow mold, and rodent damage.
