Betty Betty - Landscaping for Life I use common sense to bring life back to the landscape. I can help you create a healthy environment It results in an unhappy people. Mother knows best!

Living Better for a Better World

There is something about the natural world that sets our souls to light, our hearts to peace, and our imagination on fire. Part of what I see as the mistake of modern culture is our increasing disconnect to our natural world. Sometimes doing things “the same way as always” isn’t the best way. We have learned ( or relearned) that working with mother nature is Alway

s better than trying to control her, or working against her. My father had me in the garden at a young age. He was second generation Italian and a backyard garden was essential. It was his passion, and of the three girls I was the one most inclined to get my hands dirty. He shared his passion, his expertise, and his 10 green thumbs with me. I always feel the luckiest because of this. When he started to lose his eyesight he could still “feel” the plants and he continued to garden. It’s a rare gift these days to know what nature wants. (Oh that disconnect!) But I find that practice makes perfect, and so I want to share all that is healthy, lovely and fun about allowing nature to thrive in your environment; and of the countless benefits that come from this. If I had a mission statement here it would be to help everyone create a living environment, an ecosystem, in there own back yard. The rewards would be exponential. Not only is it a better and safer living environment for humans, but for all creatures, and lest we forget - we need them far more than they need us. Living well is so simple. So lets get rid of the muck and start demanding more sense in what we do. We will all be happier and healthier for it. And - bonus - its fun.

YOU ARE PAYING HOME DEPOT TO KILL YOUR HONEY BEES and POLLINATORS< AND YOU ARE BRINGING IT HOME>Many commercial growers for large retail chains heavily utilize neonicotinoids—a class of systemic insecticides. How it works: These chemicals are absorbed into the plant's roots, leaves, and stems, making the entire plant poisonous to insects. The danger: While it keeps the plants looking flawless in the store, this residue can linger for months, meaning plants sold as "pollinator-friendly" can actually poison bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects when they drink the nectar. READ THE LABEL AND RESEARCH THE GROWER OR "POLLINATOR FRIENDLY" BECOMES POLLINATOR DEATH. Kind of the opposite of the goal - YES?

Well....I am an artist by nature and always hand draw my plans, but this project needed texture and I decided to play around with Nano Banana and I came up with a few things despite the learning curve. It helped with them visualizing their fence painted black and it converted by pencil sketch to more lifelike with color. Still dont have the language down so I couldnt refine it better. Guess I'll watch a tutorial.

Well I never get tired of "The Cliff of Despair"! A purple carpet in May then Lilies in summer. Landscapers have favorite projects and this is mine. I had to install it with mountain climbing ropes - just how cool is that? Most likely never do that again - at least not unless I get the fat bucks. lol. Still maintaining it however, I am the only one who gets out there so I get my own special view, and I have to laugh, it probably tickles me more than the clients for whom I did this for....

The Kinney Azalea Garden in Kingston RI is in FULL BLOOM over the next couple weeks. With staggering beauty and staggering bloom times, this stroll through the woods gives a show in what we can hope will be the landscape of the future. Less lawns, more biodiversity, and layers of beauty!

Love your shade - Stories - Layers - Patterns - Living Art

Deep shade does not have to be boring at all. Some of my favorite garden spots are the shady ones because they feel so calm and lush 🍃
💗 Astilbe adds soft color
🌿 Solomon’s seal gives beautiful shape
💙 Brunnera brightens dark corners
🌾 Japanese forest grass adds movement
🪴 I like mixing leaf shapes so the bed feels full even when not much is blooming
💧 And I always check moisture because dry shade is very real
Shade gardens can be so pretty when you lean into texture.
