Kenzi said the process was simple and stress free. That one means a lot.

Most people calling a roofer aren't excited about it. Something's leaking, or the insurance company wants an answer, or the roof is just old and it's time. Nobody plans for it.

So our job is two things. Fix the roof, and don't make the rest of it hard on you. Answer the phone. Show up when we said. Tell you what's happening.

Happy Labor Day.

Roofing is hot, loud work. Our guys are up before the sun and on a roof by seven. In August that roof runs a lot hotter than the air does.

They do it anyway. Then they clean up your yard before they leave.

Your new roof came with two warranties. Most people only know about one.

The first one covers the shingles. That's from the company that made them. If the shingles fail early, that's the one you use.

The second one covers the work. That's from the roofer who put them on. Nails in the wrong spot, flashing done wrong, the metal that seals around your chimney and vents.

Shingle warranty won't touch any of that.

Here's what catches people. A bad install can void the shingle warranty. So the roofer's paperwork ends up mattering more than the brand on the box.

Dig out your folder and look for both. If you can only find one, you know what to ask about.

That gray smear isn't part of your roof. Somebody put it there.

It's roof cement. Thick black goop you trowel on to stop a leak fast. It has a place. Emergency, storm coming, buy a few weeks. That's it.

Here's the problem. Tar sits on top of the shingles instead of under them. It dries out. It cracks. Then water goes right back to the same spot it was going before.

And it hides things. Look at the white trim board above it. Paint's peeling. That's water talking.

So when we find tar on a roof, we've got two questions. What was leaking, and is it still leaking.

If somebody patched your roof and told you it was handled, get a second set of eyes on it. We inspect for free in LaGrange and around Troup County.

Don't go up and look yourself. That's our job.

First slide is what it looked like before. Worn down and patchy after a lot of years.

Second slide is the flat roof out back. Flat roofs are their own animal. Water can't run off fast, so it sits up there and hunts for a way in. The blue is underlayment, the layer that
goes down before the top layer does.

Third slide is where it landed.

We did the chapel on this property too. Steep pitch, stone walls, stained glass sitting right under the roof.

Pine Mountain is about ninety minutes from Newnan.

Look at the ground before you look at the roof.

Those tarps went down before anybody touched a shingle. A tear-off drops a lot of junk. Old shingles, nails, torn paper, chunks of wood. All of it has to land somewhere.

It lands on the tarp. Then the tarp gets rolled up and hauled off.

The blue on the roof is underlayment, the layer that goes over the wood and under the new shingles. It keeps water out while the job is going.

This one's in Moreland. New roof going on over a couple of days.

Ask any roofer what they do about your yard before you hire them. The answer tells you a lot.

Somebody had to reach up and pull this shingle back.

That's the only way this gets found. It doesn't show from the driveway. It doesn't show from a ladder either. You have to get a hand under the edge and lift it.

The glue under this shingle is gone. It came up with no fight at all. Now the wood underneath is sitting out in the open, right at the bottom edge of the roof where water hangs around the longest.

Look down in the gutter too. That grit is granules, the top coat that washes off shingles as they age.

From the street this roof looks like every other roof on the block.

That's what the free inspection is for. We get up there, take pictures, and show you what we found. Then you decide what you want to do.

Your attic tells on your roof.

Water gets in up top. It runs down the wood and leaves a mark. By the time you see a brown spot on your ceiling, that water's been coming in for weeks.

Three things to look for up there. Dark stains on the wood. Wood that looks wet or feels damp. Any daylight showing through.

You don't need a ladder for this one. Attic stairs and a flashlight, ten minutes, feet on the floor.
