🔨 From Rotted and Failing to Solid and Sale-Ready 🔨

Another project completed here in historic downtown Wiscasset.

What started as a simple stair replacement quickly turned into a much larger structural rebuild once demolition revealed extensive deterioration and hidden framing issues beneath the existing entry.

The original front landing had significant rot, settlement issues, and lacked the structural integrity needed for a conventional ledger-supported design. After evaluating the existing conditions, we redesigned the entire entry as a self-supporting structural system built independently of the house.

✅ Complete demolition of existing stairs and landing
✅ Double-beam support system
✅ New structural framing and anchorage
✅ Composite decking and stair treads
✅ PVC trim package for low maintenance
✅ Grading and site restoration
✅ Built with future expansion in mind should a future owner decide to add a covered entry or porch roof

Projects like this are a good reminder that older homes often hide surprises once work begins. The key is adapting the design to existing conditions while building something that will last.

We're proud of how this one turned out.
If you're preparing a home for sale, addressing deferred maintenance, or planning exterior improvements, Coastal Key Solutions can help evaluate options and develop practical solutions.

Three-Season Porch Transformation | Wiscasset, Maine

This project started as a seasonal porch and evolved into a much more comfortable and functional space for the homeowner.

Scope of work included:
✔ Insulation upgrades
✔ Smart v***r barrier installation
✔ V-Match pine ceiling installation
✔ White nickel-gap shiplap wall finish
✔ Custom stain-grade window and door trim
✔ Built-in base cabinetry and countertop installation
✔ Finish carpentry and detail work throughout
One of our favorite parts of a project is watching the vision come together. What starts as framing, insulation, and rough surfaces slowly transforms into a finished space that feels warm, bright, and inviting.

The combination of the natural pine ceiling, custom trim details, and clean white shiplap completely changed the character of this room while keeping the coastal Maine cottage feel intact.

A big thank you to our client for trusting Coastal Key Solutions with the project.

Big transformation day on this porch project.
Base cabinets are set, butcher block counters are underway, and the wall finish work is finally tying everything together. Once the trim, ceiling, and wall details start connecting, the whole room takes on a completely different feel.
A ton of prep, leveling, layout work, and detail work went into getting to this stage — now the vision is starting to show itself.
This is always one of our favorite phases of a project.

Starting the finish details — always our favorite stage of the project.

This is where the vision finally starts coming together and the space begins to feel finished instead of framed.

First window treatment is up:
Natural pine trim tying into the V-match ceiling with clean white nickel-gap walls throughout the room.

Simple. Warm. Clean.

The details change everything.

Coastal Key Thursdays | Before → Reimagined

Not every upgrade starts with demolition.
Sometimes it starts with vision.

This space had strong bones—coffered ceiling, natural light, and a stone fireplace—but it was missing depth, contrast, and a finished architectural feel.

We reimagined it with:
• richer wood tones and unified trim detail
• enhanced contrast through wall color & balance
• a more cohesive ceiling presence
• a warmer, more intentional lighting feel

Same room. Different outcome.

This is the kind of direction we help clients see before the first cut is ever made.

If you're looking at your space and know it could be more—but aren’t sure what “more” looks like—this is where we come in.

Same project — a few stills from this spiral stair install in Stoddard, NH.
Layout and elevation had to be dialed in to make this one land right from floor to loft. Tight footprint, existing structure, and no room for error.
Built to fit the space. Built to last.

Not every spiral stair install is plug-and-play.

Throwback to a lake home project in Stoddard, NH. Came across these photos and a short clip from a few years back — this one required precision layout, elevation alignment, and fine tuning at every stage to land clean from floor to loft.

Tight footprint. Existing structure. No room for error.

The video is a walk-up test after install — making sure everything feels solid, aligned, and right under foot. That’s where the difference shows.
Built to fit the space. Built to last.
