🥚🍅 Before You Throw Away Those Eggshells, Your Garden Might Have Another Use for Them
Eggshells often end up in the trash, but many gardeners crush them and return them to the soil. They’re largely made of calcium carbonate, so as they slowly break down, they can contribute calcium to the soil over time.
You may also hear that a ring of crushed eggshells will stop slugs and snails. That claim is much less reliable—eggshells shouldn’t be counted on as your main slug-control method.
And while tomatoes need calcium, eggshells are not a quick cure for blossom-end rot. Consistent watering and healthy root conditions are especially important because the plant still has to move available calcium into developing fruit.
So save the shells if you want—crush them finely, compost them, or incorporate them into your garden soil—but think of them as a slow soil amendment, not an overnight garden miracle. 🌱
👇 Do you save eggshells for your garden, or toss them away?
