Meet SHIFT Cabin.

A ground-floor bedroom, an office loft and double-height living, framed by two asymmetric timber roofs.

The $199 architectural design package includes 15 sheets in PDF and editable DWG.

Want help adapting it to your land and coordinating local approvals? We do that with you. Or take the editable DWG to your own architect or contractor for a quote.

A cultural district shaped around the river.

This concept sequence moves from the master plan to the arts center’s sculptural roof forms, then returns to the waterfront after dark.

I explore how architecture, planted riverbanks and pedestrian connections can read as one place.

Which view tells the story best: the master plan, the form study or the night scene?

From the first foundations to a home among the trees.

I explore a Craftsman-inspired concept with blue-gray siding, white trim, a stone chimney and a generous front porch.

Watch the timber frame take shape, then step inside to warm wood floors, a bright kitchen and spaces that open toward the garden.

Which would be your favorite spot: the porch or the living room?

Which floor would you choose?

Oak, bamboo, cork, limestone, travertine, marble, slate, quartzite, terrazzo, terracotta, cement tile, pebble...

The floor is the surface you touch all day, and it tells on you. Marble etches the first time someone spills lemon or w**e on it. Quartzite looks similar and does not. Cork is warm, soft and quiet underfoot. Slate grips when it gets wet. Pebble is beautiful, and nobody wants to stand on it for an hour while cooking.

Choose for the life that happens on it, not for the photo.

Which one is yours?

Doors that make an entrance.

Pivot, pocket, sliding, French, Dutch, barn, shoji, concealed, steel framed glass, carved timber...

A door is the only piece of architecture you touch every single day. A pivot door lets you use a panel far bigger than normal hinges could hold. A pocket door disappears, and so does any chance of running a pipe or a switch through that wall. A barn door looks great and closes nothing: sound goes straight past it.

Pick the entrance you would want to open every morning.

Find your garden style.

Cottage, Mediterranean, Japanese rock garden, Persian, French formal, English landscape, desert, rain garden, woodland, rooftop...

Every one of these is an idea about nature, not just a planting list. A Japanese rock garden uses raked gravel to stand in for water. A Persian garden is split into four by water channels, a picture of paradise. French formal gardens control nature, and the English landscape garden was invented to rebel against exactly that. A rain garden is simply a planted hollow that drinks the storm water your roof sends it.

Where would you want to have your morning coffee?

Ceilings that change everything.

Coffered, tray, coved, barrel vault, groin vault, fan vault, domed, exposed beams, woven bamboo, acoustic baffles...

The ceiling is the biggest surface in the room and the one we think about last. A coffered ceiling can make a low room feel heavy. A vault needs height you have to plan from the section, not from the finishes list. And a room of exposed concrete and glass will echo until something like baffles comes in to fix it.

Look up in your own home. What is there?

Facades made for shadows.

Jaali, cobogó, brick lattice, terracotta louvers, timber slats, perforated metal, vertical fins, horizontal louvers, kinetic panels...

A screen is not decoration. It is how a building decides how much sun gets in before anyone touches the air conditioning. And orientation matters more than style: horizontal louvers work where the sun is high, vertical fins work where it comes in low from the east and west. Egg crate screens do both.

Then there is the bonus nobody puts in the brief: the shadows.

Which staircase is your style?

Straight, L-shaped, helical, bifurcated, cantilevered, folded plate, open riser...

Here is the part nobody shows you. A cantilevered stair only floats if the wall behind it can carry it. A helical one saves floor space and eats the budget. The open riser looks light, and most building codes limit how big that gap is allowed to be.

The stair is never just the stair. It decides the whole hall around it.
