Color Resonance

I have always liked this image. Aside from the frontal composition, it showcases resonance through color harmony.

The vintage Jiri Jiroutek sideboard, featuring its signature white and pink doors, anchors the lower beige portion of the wall. Above it, the Manzella painting is strategically centered on the horizontal datum line where the beige meets the off-white field.

Placing art, furniture, and architecture intentionally can create a composition that is more than the sum of its parts.

Risonanza Cromatica 🎨

Ho sempre amato questa immagine. A parte la composizione frontale, essa mette in mostra la risonanza attraverso l'armonia dei colori.

Creating cozy, curated interiors by expertly mixing vintage pieces with contemporary designs. Here, in this apartment, you'll find these intentional contrasts: Our MiMi dining table (alepreda for ) is placed in conversation with classic bentwood Czech chairs, while a contemporary leather chair finds its place beside a vintage desk and dresser, bridging styles with ease. Even the sleek modern kitchen is grounded by original herringbone flooring and seasoned with old pepper grinders—each piece telling its own story. It’s about finding harmony in unexpected pairings and celebrating the unique character each element brings to a space.

Creare interni accoglienti e curati mescolando sapientemente pezzi vintage e design contemporaneo. Qui, in questo appartamento, troverete questi contrasti intenzionali: Il nostro tavolo da pranzo MiMi (alepreda per ) è messo in dialogo con classiche sedie ceche in legno curvato, mentre una sedia in pelle contemporanea trova il suo posto accanto a una scrivania e un comò vintage, unendo gli stili con facilità. Detail: The Stepped Vanity.

We believe in design resonance. The stepped geometry used for the primary inserted volume (from our previous post) is reused here, establishing a thematic link.

The three steps of the vanity dictate the storage: creating one drawer on the left and two doors on the right, with increasingly deeper space. When we sent the sketch, the millworker called to confirm we hadn't made a mistake—which is exactly the point!

Design should be rigorous, but always joyful and fun. Even a simple vanity is a meaningful, worthwhile detail. The material is a laminate, meticulously matched in color to the grout of the surrounding tiles for total coherence.

Dettaglio: Il Mobile Lavabo a Gradoni.

Crediamo nella risonanza del design. La geometria a gradoni utilizzata per il volume principale (dal nostro post precedente) viene riproposta qui, stabilendo un legame tematico.

I tre gradini del mobile bagno scandiscono lo spazio: un cassetto a sinistra e due ante a destra, offrendo una profondità progressivamente maggiore. Quando abbiamo inviato lo schizzo, il falegname ha chiamato per chiederci se avessimo commesso un errore—ed è proprio questo il punto!

Il design deve essere rigoroso, ma sempre gioioso e divertente. Anche un semplice mobile bagno è per noi un dettaglio significativo. Il materiale è un laminato, il cui colore è abbinato meticolosamente alla stuccatura delle piastrelle circostanti per una coerenza totale.

Stepped Volume Apartment. ⬜

Inserting contemporary volumes into a 19th-century framework.

The new stepped forms seen here house an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. Our design intent was twofold: to create an element of surprise and to clearly maintain the readability of the existing vs. the additions.

We achieved this distinction through both form and color—the new volumes are left white to stand in clear dialogue with the history of the apartment.

Inserire volumi contemporanei in una cornice del XIX secolo.

Le nuove forme a gradoni che vedete qui ospitano un bagno in camera e una cabina armadio. Il nostro intento progettuale era duplice: creare un elemento di sorpresa e mantenere una chiara leggibilità tra la struttura esistente e le nuove aggiunte.

Inspiration: Primitive Tectonic. 🪨

Captured in the Maddalena archipelago, Sardinia. I am drawn to the nesting of cut stone laid between natural boulders, and the striking patch on the vertical crack of the left formation.

Primitive tectonics are a constant source of inspiration for the studio. Boulders—with their creases, folds, and steps—naturally invite interaction. We climb them to seek a better vantage point; we hide behind them for protection.

In our interior projects, we have tested ways to abstract and rationalize these geometries, inserting these "architectures" into our domestic spaces to encourage a sense of surprise and wonder of what lies inside.

Ispirazione: Tettonica Primitiva. 🪨

Scattata nell'arcipelago della Maddalena, in Sardegna. Sono attratto dall'incastro della pietra tagliata posata tra i massi naturali, e dal vistoso inserto sulla spaccatura verticale della formazione a sinistra.

La tettonica primitiva è una fonte costante di ispirazione per lo studio. I massi—con le loro pieghe, rientranze e gradini—invitano naturalmente all'interazione. Ci arrampichiamo su di essi per cercare un punto di osservazione migliore; ci nascondiamo dietro di essi per cercare protezione.

Nei nostri progetti d'interni, abbiamo sperimentato modi per astrarre e razionalizzare queste geometrie, inserendo queste "architetture" negli spazi domestici per incoraggiare un senso di sorpresa e meraviglia per ciò che si cela all'interno.

ArchImprov #21. ✍️

In an age of digital precision, why do we still draw by hand?

Simply put, we believe in the intelligence of the hand. We embrace wholeheartedly new technologies, but when it comes to ideation, nothing seems more effective, liberating and pleasurable than ink on a piece of paper. Sketching, like physical model-making and prototyping, keeps our design process human-centric. It’s an essential act of play—a way to let the subconscious seep into a highly technical discipline.

These "ArchImprovs" are quick, intuitive tests. After a long hiatus, I’m excited to bring this series back to our new account.

In poche parole, crediamo nell'intelligenza della mano. Breaking ground on our most complex renovation yet. 🏗️
After years of planning, we have officially started construction on this historic Palazzo in Brescia. The building has been unoccupied for decades—save for the pigeons—providing a beautiful but challenging context for a radical intervention.
The design features two interlocking duplexes with a unique sectional play:

Living spaces are located on the Piano Nobile and the top floor to maximize light and ceiling heights.
Sleeping quarters are tucked into the quiet middle floors.
A complex scissor stair weaves through the core, maintaining private circulation for both units within the existing walls.
It’s been a long road to get here, but we are excited to finally bring this vision to life.

Finalmente in cantiere per la nostra ristrutturazione più complessa. 🏗️

Dopo anni di pianificazione, abbiamo ufficialmente iniziato i lavori in questo storico Palazzo a Brescia. L'edificio è rimasto disabitato per decenni—tranne che per i piccioni—offrendo un contesto affascinante ma impegnativo per un intervento radicale.

Il progetto prevede due duplex intrecciati con un gioco di sezioni unico:
Le zone giorno si trovano al Piano Nobile e all'ultimo piano per massimizzare luce e altezze.
La zona notte è inserita nei piani intermedi, più silenziosi.
Una complessa scala a forbice si snoda attraverso il nucleo centrale, garantendo una circolazione privata per entrambe le unità all'interno delle mura esistenti.

È stato un percorso lungo, ma siamo entusiasti di vedere finalmente questa visione prendere forma.

Custom house in Upstate NY.
Set on a gently sloping 12-acre site in Columbia County, this project let us test our full design ethos—from architecture to the interiors and the custom millwork. Built off-site and assembled on-site, it reimagines traditional details through a contemporary lens.

Knowing the client since high school gave us creative freedom. With the client/builder we prototyped every element: façade, concrete pavers, planters, stair, and interior joinery. Each one resonates—with the land, and with each other.

This is a closer look at our Long Island City townhouse renovation. The focus: subtle façade upgrades and the creation of new outdoor spaces—a front garden, second-floor balcony, enlarged windows, and a reimagined rear yard.

Symmetry and surprise at the H-House in Sardegna, Italy. 🇮🇹

We designed this ground-up home as a play on perception. From the outside, it presents a perfectly symmetrical and balanced form: two identical volumes joined by a central glass connector (the "H").

But this clean, symmetrical exterior conceals a radically different interior life. The design separates the home's functions into two distinct halves:

Left Volume: An expansive, double-height living and dining room, designed for open, social living.

Right Volume: The private, functional core, housing the office, bedrooms, bathrooms, and staircase.

It’s an architectural concept that balances pure geometry on the outside with a custom, asymmetrical layout on the inside, tailored precisely to how the family lives.

Simmetria e sorpresa nella H-House in Sardegna. 🇮🇹

Abbiamo progettato questa nuova residenza come un gioco di percezioni. Dall'esterno, presenta una forma perfettamente simmetrica ed equilibrata: due volumi identici uniti da un connettore centrale in vetro (la "H").

Ma questo esterno pulito e simmetrico nasconde una vita interna radicalmente diversa. Il design separa le funzioni della casa in due metà distinte:

Volume Sinistro: Un'ampia zona giorno e pranzo a doppia altezza, progettata per una vita sociale e aperta.

Volume Destro: Il nucleo privato e funzionale, che ospita l'ufficio, le camere da letto, i bagni e le scale.

È un concetto architettonico che bilancia la geometria pura all'esterno con una disposizione interna asimmetrica e su misura, adattata al modo di vivere della famiglia.

A look at our design process: Plaster Casting.

This image shows an aggregation of 3D-cast tiles from a series we developed in the studio. For us, design isn't just digital.

By creating and combining these physical modules, we can rapidly prototype architectural motifs and patterns. This hands-on method lets us build quick massing models—tools that help us and our clients test a building's potential form, texture, and relationship with light in a truly tangible way.

It’s how we move from an abstract idea to a physical form you can see and touch.

Bringing the outside in at our Upstate New York Cabin. 🌲

The dining area is defined by its connection to nature. The custom boiserie (spray-painted wood paneling) was designed to abstractly evoke the forest; its vertical lines echo the trees outside, creating a continuous rhythm that draws the landscape directly into the room.

The interior design remains intentionally quiet, acting as a tranquil frame for the woodland views.
